Pick Lebrons new running mate, vote, poll

Post#1 » by the edge » Mon May 19, 2008 6:40 pm

It's getting very clear that LBJ only needs 1 more Dependable star on this team. He said that J. Kidd was all he needed to win this year. I'm not so sure if he would have made the dif. but I do get Lebrons point. My question is; these 3 players seem to be possible options, who would you want playing with the King, and why. Melo, Matrix or Brand?

Well, I don't want Melo...

Elton Brand for me please..

We don't have any low post options.. Z is old, slow, and is probably better suited off the bench.. His postup game is long gone, and he's now relegated to pick and pops..

Elton is a beast on the block, on the boards, and defensively.. A true double teamed worthy low post player that LeBron could really benefit from playing with..

If we get Elton Brand..mark down a championship.

Consider how teams completely leave our PF to double Lebron...put a threat at that position...wow

There are a lot of players that have ETO this offseason and so many good free agents.

Elton Brand, Gilbert Arenas, Baron Davis, Shawn Marion, Allen Iverson all have ETO.

Antawn Jamison is an unrestricted free agents.

Loul Deng, Ben Gordon, Josh Smith, Emaka Okafor, J.R. Smith, Monta Ellis, Sasha Vujacic, Andre Iguodala are all restricted free agents.

The Cavs need to to get one or two of these players if they can. It is guarenteed we get rid of Wally, Damon, and Erik. Expirings are very valuable in the trade market.

Guys, we have no cap-room. None of these ETO guys will be traded for expirings because every ETO player is an expiring themselves.

I don't think we are going after Melo, mainly because the price tag will be higher than others at the time being. Marion wont even be considered in my opinion, hes the oldest of the bunch, and i think we would want a bigger 4. With that being said, here is my list.

#1. O.J Mayo..I know for a fact we have interest in moving up in the draft to nab him. Really depends on who finds themselves in the position to draft them and whether they already have a back court and need salary relief. His youth, basketball talent and compliment to lebron on the wing gives him the nod as #1 on my list.

#2. Elton Brand or even a 1a option. Probably one of the best power forwards in this league since he has been a pro. The guy is an absolute load to handle on he block and can step out with a jumpshot or even face up and get to the hole. he is also an impressive defender and shot blocker

#3. Michael Redd. The bucks are in salary cap hell and we could easily relive them of their burden. His defense can be worrisome but if mike brown can get wally to play passable defense, i'm not worried too much here

If we can work out a deal for the Knicks #5 which is something that has been thrown out quite a bit I would love to see Eric Gordon. His explosive athleticism would be phenomenal to pair with the driving ability of Lebron and the spot up ability of Delonte and Gibson. Other than that, I think it would be phenomenal if we could find a young Joe Smith.

I think Elton Brand is everyone's dream but I don't see a great situation where we could make it happen. Maggette could though.

^Hmm like the Eric Gordon suggestion. He would fit in perfect here with his perimeter shot and ability to create off the bounce...

Brand sounds like the choice from most people. What was his injury this year?
And, is there any way you guys could see us making a run at him?

He tore his achillies if I'm not mistaken.

brand - and the way we get him is to also take on Mobley's contract. Andy for Brand, expiring contracts for Mobley, add a pick or two, do it in two trades so we can give cash to buy out one of the expiring contracts, preferably Snow who could then return to be an assistant coach here.

Andy
Wally, Snow, Smith (whatever expirings necessary)
'08 1st, '10 1st

for

Brand
Mobley

While I'd die just so that could happen for the Cavs, the Clippers would do nothing more than laugh at that offer. The ONLY possibility is if the Clippers are blowing this year, Brand continues to have injury problems throughout the season, and most other teams are too scared to offer anything better for a guy who's been injured a lot lately.

Yea, that's not going to be enough. Clippers could care less about Andy. Factor in that in the slim chance that Brand does get traded here, that 2010 first is going to be worthless, as it will easily be in the 25 range. The expirings are nice, but there are teams that can offer more than just expirings and late firsts.

Unless I am mistaken we have Joe Smith, Andy Varejao, and Ben Wallace signed to contracts at the PF position?
We also don't have the money necessary to sign Brand last time I checked.
I like another clipper....Corey Magette, he can do almost anything and can play the SG and fill in at SF when LeBron has his 2 minutes of rest a game. He can create scores shooting, or slashing to the basket.
His defense is underated and usually hacked on by people who don't ever watch him. He is a fierce competitor and would fit in great with his size, length and athleticism to our team. he is also pretty young giving us a good window of time to work with lebron. This is not Larry Hughes part II the guy can straight ball.

If we can swing a sign and trade would be amazing. He has an option on his contract and is probably going to opt out. We would thus have to do a sign and trade with the clippers. Possibly giving up our pick? Or whatever they want. I think he would be a perfect fit though.

The more time that goes by, the more I want to add players to this poll, like Corey. Also the more I read comments made by Gilbert, and Lebron, and hearing Ferry's interview, the more I am convinced that this team will make a move for a really good player! Ahh! the possibilites!

I am not sure about Maggette. I mean, he is not a bad player at all but the fact is he is injury prone and his habit of making poor decisions are relentless.
