if carlisle wants to somewhat pattern dirk into larry bird by sometimes using him in the 5 or 3 spot and just mixing his skills all up, then dirk needs another post presence like larry with mchale...

if carlisle gets jermaine oneal in the summer, then we might be seeing a pattern here... i got a strong feeling carisle can utilize dirk strengths without simply posting up on isos like avery tells him to... im prepared to see the old dirk back.. popping 3 pointers like a shooting guard on a 7 foot frame...

dont you guys see it? as bad as it may sound, but dirk is the root of our problems.... we have to build a team with extra active centers and small forwards who could run back on D and cut the slack for dirk... we wouldnt be having that problem if we had a two-way PF in dirk... im not blaming the uberman as he has his unique skill set that others dont have.. and i might just be pointing out the obvious here, but its indeed something that we are having problems about...

Again, we've said for years that Dirk is difficult to build around. But if you can't have a traditional superstar, Dirk's the next best option. Or, would you rather have a lesser star who's more traditional?

As I see it, we tried to build a traditional team in a league that was transitioning from traditional to versatile. A traditional C who can't score is no longer necessary. This is a perimeter-oriented league with perimeter-oriented stars. You've got have an active, mobile team to defend that. We don't. A frontcourt of two PF/Cs (one of which would be Dirk) is part of the answer. A backcourt of two guys who can defend anyone on the wing is another. A SF who can defend most anyone is another. We don't have the pieces to accomplish that, IMO.

Of course, factor in offense, and there's a whole other set of problems.

Very bad trade for Atlanta. Dallas basically hits the foundation of youth and still acquires a star.

Pointguard01, I see what you are saying, but what you say doesn't mean that you are right. You being so emphatic about there being no way that Bass could work still has holes. I can agree that it might not work, I hope you can see that it also might work.

We have to gain the mentality of dictating the game to the other team. We had that at one point, Carlisle hopefully gets it back. We have the talent, even if we have ill fitting pieces. Now the task is getting them onboard with the gameplan regardless of what it is.

Like I said, I think it can work in stretches of games to throw the opponent off and give them something to look at, but I dont like this as our main lineup. It would get torn up on both ends. So yea, I dont deny that it might work, but only in the middle of the game against certain lineups. But overall, its not a starting lineup I would support.
