I remember reading this article the other day and laughing.

Timberwolves' owner Glen Taylor insists that he has not, and will not, put Head of Basketball Operations Kevin McHale on the hot seat this offseason, according to The Pioneer Press.

"I don't put people on the hot seat," Taylor told Charley Walters of the Press. [READ]

Anyway, I liked Casey, but he committed the unforgivable sin of being a coach -- the team stopped listening to him. Its the same reason Flip got the axe.

Garnett missed the last five games of the 2007 season -- if that was even tanking. Taylor said nothing about the wolves tanking for two year, or KG tanking for two years.

He blamed tanking on KG in some manner, which is ridiculous and misleading at best and a bald faced lie at worst.

So he only said the Wolves tanked 1 year? You're really playing into semantics here. Taylor said something like the Wolves didn't tank, KG did, which is absolutely a lie.

In comments to Minneapolis reporters yesterday, Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor accused Garnett of "tanking" the last five games of the 2006-07 season. Taylor's comments came after he was asked about the Wolves having a reputation for tanking games in recent seasons to aid their draft position.

Garnett missed the last five games last season with a sore right quadriceps, but Taylor questioned the truth of that claim.

"It was more like, I'd say, KG tanked it," Taylor said.

Taylor also said: "The other guys still wanted to play, but it sure changed the team and didn't make us as [good]."

Taylor's quote was an obvious misrepresentation of the situation.

As I said, Flip and Casey lost the team -- or at least the important starters.

Flip lost Cassell and Sprewell because of their greed over contracts, and KG wants to be a player, not a boss, so he hung with the other guys when things went south.

Casey lost Ricky and Blount (but then again, who would they listen to?) and I imagine again, KG wants to hang with the players.

I think if Al Jefferson starts listen to McCants, Wittman will be gone.

Let me point out, I'm not saying its fair. But prima donna athletes have more power on a team than most coaches. If they won't listen, the coach can't do his job.

I think basti was more just referring to the lack of consistency in management's treatment of coaches recently. The Ricky Davis/Blount team seemed to listen to Wittman even less than they listened to Casey, yet Wittman got a clean slate with a new roster. Compounding it all is that a big reason Casey lost the team is that Taylor basically made Dwane into a lame duck and undermined his authority when he forced Casey to take on Wittman as an assistant. Now Wittman seemsto have been given carte blanche in terms of leeway, while Casey was pressured from all angles with a roster of coach killers, a replacement picked by the owner's hand on his staff, and unrealistic expectations from the front office. No matter how you try to slice it, Casey got a raw deal.

Oh, shrink, did you call into Barreiro's show on KFAN last week? They were talking Wolves and some guy called in and said that he liked the trade McHale got for KG, and that if he had to, he would've trade KG straight up for Al Harrington. I got a good chuckle out of it.
