Ugh, I just don't get this fascination with Mayo....
I mean I'm not gonna pretend to be some elite judge of talent, but I live in LA, watched maybe 6 or 7 USC games during the regular season last year, and I couldn't possibly be any less excited about this guy. Yeah, he'll probably score 20 pts per game for a bunch of years in the pros, but there's a lot of shooting guards out there who score 20pts but aren't the kind of guys who raise their team to another level.
I don't know, I can't even put my finger on it... But he just sort of plays like the kind of player who's pretty good at everything, but thinks he's god's gift to basketball and expects to be treated as such. he's a good passer but is too selfish to pass, a good scorer on the college level but not exactly a great shooter, and he's an athletic defender but has more defensive lapses than ricky davis.
he is NOT the next kobe. he's probably more likely the next jamal crawford.
i don't even know what i want to do with this pick, but i can't imagine myself cheering for this guy next year when i spent this past year shaking my head at him every game i watched.

Mostly, those are the ones that don't play defense. Mayo plays excellent defense. That is a huge distinction between him and guys like Michael Redd or Kevin Martin.
People have been saying Mayo is more suited for the NBA game than the college game at least since he was a junior in high school.
