ive said this before, this is the period of time where his contract decision will be made. this guy was not brought here to win a division championship. but it was the belief that he was to contribute and place a 15th banner on the ceiling. whether we move forward with him or not will depend on #1 how he does against the spurs. and should be surpass them, how he contributes in taking down the banner.

his career as a LAKER is at stake. and we dont have the time nor the energy to waste anymore "kobe" years, and especially "Dr. Buss" years on anything else, but bringing the title back to la-la land.

good read, ever since we brought in Gasol this cat has played like an all star.

To be honest Lamar and Fish are the reasons why we are still in the playoffs.

Many have said Fish and Lamar have had a better playoff run then Kobe has thus far. (basically they have elevated their game more then Kobe has)

Man, I love the Odom that's been tearing up this post season. He doesnt settle for long threes but instead, he is driving hard to the basket.

I especially liked his aggresiveness during the fourth quarter of game 5 against the Jazz. I think he put down two dunks on Okur's head.

I loved it.

I just hope he doesn't revert back to the passive Lamar against the Spurs. He needs to play the same way if we are going to have a chance of getting past the defending champs.

I know Kobe, Pau and Derek will get theirs.

But it is the play of Lamar and our bench that would get us over the hump.

Kobe elevated his game a long time ago.
Now he's learning how to be a great leader.

Well, I agree that Lamar and Fish have elevated their games (especially in the playoffs). Without them we aren't in the Western Conference Finals

IMO, Kobe hasn't needed to raise the level of his game one bit... he's played like The Man ever since Shaq was traded  To me, the only difference now is that Kobe is passing more and his guys are knocking down shots...

Call me crazy, but Lakers in 5  Especially, if they can play uptempo and run against the Spurs.

The average age of SA is 30.0... With age comes experience and basketball smarts. That being said, those old guys on the Spurs don't want any part of getting in the open floor with the Lakers. They would rather slow the game down and run their stuff...

yup! totally agreed! Kobe Bryant is the best all-around basketball player on the planet. Their is nothing to elevate about his game. should he go learn how to slice n dice? shoot the three? hit the midrange? do a reverse dunk? knock down free throws? or wat else? theres nothing he can't do mayne.

He worked on the one thing he's been criticized on the most and that is his leadership and making his teammates better. I dont think anyone here, after this season, will argue that Mr. bryant did not conquer that obstacle.

the only thing left is learning how to coach, be an exec, or basketball analyst...lol

anyway...good article on Lamar...i must admit i hated his guts at one point but...im proud of the guy...he has really become the kind of player we know he can be for us. I just hope this isn't a playoff thing...

This coming series will really be a test for him. Fish will knock down shots, Gasol will get his offensively, and kobe will get his aswell, but i think the key to winning this series and winning it quickly is Odom. Yup.

Oberto, Duncan --> rebounds.

I mean... they actually play defense. There will be alot of bricks from both teams. If we cant rebound, we will loose. period. Lamar has to play big. He has to be a complete beast on the boards, unless mitch better go offer Rodman a 10-day contract, cuz thats the only thing left to do.

Odom is having a terrific playoffs, and Phil Jackson said it quite perfectly: "He has improved significantly."

That being said, to those who think Fish and Odom are having a better playoffs than Kobe, let's not get carried away. Odom has picked his spots and crashed the boards and played good defense, but he's been most a great role player. So is Fish. But Kobe's spearheaded most of our victories, carrying the load in almost every aspect of the game, coming up with so many key plays, balancing the offense yet taking it over when we need him to.

The idea that Fish and Odom elevated their games more than Kobe?

Season averages/Playoff averages:

Odom: 14-11-4 / 16-11-3 (in 2 more minutes)
Fish: 12-3-2 / 12-3-3 (6.5 more minutes)
Pau: 19-8-4 / 20-9-5 (in almost 8 more minutes)
Kobe: 28-6-5 / 33-6-7 (in 1.5 more minutes)

No Laker elevated his game more than Kobe, and nobody was more efficient.

True that.

Anyway, can you believe how fresh Kobe looks?

Kudos to Phil for limiting his minutes during the regular season so he can have fresh legs come playoff time.

Kudos to our bench too. Those blowouts where Kobe didn't need to go in the fourth is helping now. Don't yah all think?

You tell em, Riley.

After he wins the 6th man award, and wins the first NBA Grand Slam...

He'd make a great friend/mentor for a young upcoming star guard, if he wants to be.

A little help never hurt nobody.

Yeah ! That's very true. Kobe, Lamar, Fisher and Pau have been able to rest in many games this season and that's very important ! Now they're fresh, and that's going to be one of the key factors against SAS, Boston or Detroit if we make the finals.

The regular season was like a warm up for our starting five.
I understand the bench carried a big load during the regular season, but they have to step up.

I say we will see if LO is really a hero with his game against the Spurs. I really see him as being the x-factor here. He really needs to show his aggressiveness in the paint, grab all those rebounds, play excellent defense, and keep the energy up. There isnt anyone that can hold him on the spurs. Kobe is the ultimate mismatch, gasol should man up on oberto, LO on duncan, Ariza on manu and finley, kobe or parker, manu, or bowen. Fish on parker. I think that will be a great defending team. But sorry guys i am just stoked for the series to begin. GOOOO Lakers!!!
