We're taking Rose, i'd be shocked if John & Reinsdorf took Beasley.
1. Chicago product, Chicago is built to make money first, titles second. This city was already flipping out for Rose before Memphis.
2. Paxson has an unhealthy love for point & combo guards.
3. Rose definitely makes the players around him better, Beasley looks more like a great individual player.

People just ready to throw Hinrich as garbage after one subpar season. Reminds me of what they did to Tyson Chandler. Many Bulls had a bad year last year. Rose would have to work to reach Hinrich's level of a couple of years ago. The guy was 17 6 and 40% from downtown then. Not to mention was as good a defender in the league on both SGs and PGs.

I think the smart move for the Bulls would be:
Draft Rose
Keep:
PG - Rose/Duhon
SG - xxx/Hughes
SF - Deng/Nocioni
PF - xxx/Gooden
C - Noah/Gray
Trade:
Ben Gordon, Tyrus Thomas, Thabo Sefolosha, Kirk Hinrich
There is easily enough there to get a starting PF and a starting SG. Maybe go for Brand at PF (a deal centered around Sefolosha + Gordon + Thomas for Brand?) and Martell Webster at SG (a deal centered around Hinrich). If they can dump Nocioni for an expiring, that would be a great idea too, as the Bulls really don't seem to like pay luxury tax (maybe Nocioni to Cleveland? They have tons of expirings and need skilled players). Hughes' salary they'll probably just have to ride out, unless they wanna do something like Hughes + 09 1st for an expiring.
A starting lineup of Rose/Webster/Deng/Brand/Noah contends in the east immediately, and still has tons of youth.

Rose, Bulls need someone who can help improve their existing players.
Kirk (dribble it around) Hinrich isn't a good PG, he's a very good defensive player with the game of a combo guard.
Gordon is best off the ball too.
Duhon - Yech.
I say they try to package Deng, Hinrich (and maybe Nocioni or Tyrus) for Carmello.
Guards - Rose, Sefalosha, Gordon
SF - Carmello, Nocioni
PF/C - Gooden, Tyrus, Noah

This is why the Bulls won't draft Beasley, it goes against everything Paxson wants in a player....From DraftExpress in the Beasley profile:
Defensively, there is absolutely no way around the fact that Beasley has looked awful so far--not really a surprise considering his reputation coming into college. Even when he tries to put in a legit effort, he looks unfocused--almost completely lost-- constantly out of position, and too often caught with his hand in the cookie jar gambling for steals. He doesn

My view on the debate as posted on the Bull's board:
On top of that there's the fact that Paxson loves winners, high character guys and players who will play defence. See Kirk Hinrich, Chris Duhon, Luol Deng, etc.
Derrick Rose was a free throw away from leading Memphis to the national title. He seems to have a much better character than Beasley (though I think Beasley's red flags are overblown). He is a good defender, while Beasley seems very uninterested in that side of the game.
Flite wrote:I haven't seen any Beasley hate, but here's my reasons for me wanting Rose over Beasley.
- Beasley plays the two positions I least want filled by a draft pick - SF and PF. These two positions are filled by our best player on the team (Luol, still very young), and two of our bigtime unknowns in Tyrus and Joakim. On top of that we have Gooden who done a nice job holding down the offensive load downlow.
- Beasley's main skills are scoring and rebounding. We have some super rebounders down low - Joakim, Tyrus, Drew, even Luol. Rebounding I don't believe is needed all that much. Scoring down low has been a problem for years, but Beasley is not a complete back to the basket guy. He's like Carlos Boozer/Carmelo Anthony - he'll go inside and out.
- Derrick Rose is a point guard who has complete control over the game. We often complain about Kirk's overdribbling and the teams overall offence. Bring a floor general at the level of a Derrick Rose and the offence will run alot smoother, instantly.
- Derrick Rose' only weakness seems to be his outside shot. The jumpshot is probably the easiest skill to work on, and I don't see it being a problem in a couple years. Beasley on the other hand is a poor defender, and he may just end up being another Carmelo Anthony (who is actually one of my favorite players) on the next level - he'll put points on the board, but the amount he gives up lowers his impact.
- Derrick Rose is the fastest player I have ever seen with the ball. I said this two years ago after watching him destroy Oak Hill in Chicago. Imagine what he could do for our transition game.
- Rose has elite size for his position and is a true point guard. Beasley is somewhat stuck between two positions and is only average size for a power forward. Rose' game is just so defined, once he get's that jumpshot down he'll be a real force.
- A PG, in my opinion, is more important to a team than a SF/PF, unless that forward's name is LeBron James or Tim Duncan.
- Derrick Rose will do more for our offence and get more out of our current, young personnel. This is great for developing the young guys. Look what Steve Nash did for Amare. Look what Chris Paul is doing for David West. Tyrus couldn't ask for a better player.
- We've been historically a jumpshooting team, and the drive and dish is definately something Derrick can help with tremendously.
- Derrick Rose is the hometown kid and will be the best point guard in Chicago Bulls history by the season opener in year two. He's a great icon for the Bulls and the city of Chicago.
By the way, I'd be thrilled with Beasley too, afterall - we came into this looking at a late lottery pick. Getting Beasley would be amazing. Getting Derrick would just be a whole nother level for me.

Well, I stayed up until 2am last night (UK time) to watch the lottery results and boy was it worth it.
Rose and Beasley are both incredibly talented and I love both of them.
I feel Rose is slightly overrated but I still think he'd be the best fit due to his hometown roots. I'd be perfectly happy with Beasley. Hell, I'd even be happy with O.J. Mayo.
Rose to Tyrus Thomas on the fast break would be insane.

Great analysis
I also think Rose is a better fit. His role would be similar to the one at Memphis. Beasley would need to adapt himself to a situation where he is not the only star in the team.
Anyway it's a win-win situation
A doubt, would you think that being a Chicago area native should be a factor in the decision???

Chicago should draft Rose #1 then trade for #2 and draft Beasley.
They should offer a package of players from Gordon, Hinrich, Gooden or Noah plus next years #1 to Miami and take back their garbage (Davis and Blount) for #2 pick.
It is time for Chicago to blow it up anyway. With Rose, Deng, Nocioni, Beasley and Ty Thomas they have a great core of players. Rose could make Ty Thomas into the player they hoped when they drafted him.
Miami might be wise to unload their garbage and to bring in Hinrich and Gooden to play with Marion and a healthy Wade makes them an intriguing team. A Wade/Hinrich backcourt would be flexible and potent with either guy able to play point or SG. Marion and Gooden would be a tough match for anybodies front court.
Whatever else you take from Chicago - Gordon, Noah etc. could help too. Then you just go out and get a veteran banger with MLE.

"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

The pick should be Rose. The speed and penetrating ability he has is what they're missing. He'll make guys like Noah, Thomas, Sefolosha (sp?), and Deng more effective. They don't need Beasley. Deng really can do pretty much what Beasley can do if they use him more effectively.
If they pick Rose, I'd still try to keep Hinrich and use him more at the 2. Gordon's the one I'd dump. I think they have to keep Hughes - at his salary. Sefolosha I'd keep - and have him play some 3. Nocioni - dump him. They need to streamline the roster - and I think that's the best way to do it - making it easier for everyone to fit. They've always had a lot of pieces, but they didn't fit.
