George Karl behind Melo Deal?
This post came from Nuggets Talk from 104 Dfan....
Passing along a report from 104.3 The Fan here in Denver. Sandy Clough this morning reported the Nuggets are expected to make a "major move" this offseason. Clough, who apparently has good connections with the Nugz, says there is a current struggle amongst the members of the Nuggets FO and coaching staff regarding Carmelo Anthony. According to Clough, George Karl wants the team to move Carmelo and Karl's words resonate more with owner Stan Kroenke than Mark Warkentein, Bret Bearup or Rex Chapman. Clough didn't give specifics on the three Nuggets FO men but said they're split on what to do with Anthony. Clough mentioned the major sticking point of any deal would be Kroenke signing off on a deal as he's very fond of Melo and knows that stars sell tickets and jerseys in the NBA. With that Clough said (in what I assume was his opinion) that Melo is likely gone. He mentioned that he believes Karl's preference is to make a deal for expirings and a lotto pick, then let AI walk after next season and rebuild the team.
I have no idea as to the credibility of Sandy Clough as everyone on The Fan are Extreme-Nugz-Haters. In fact, throughout the day, everyone of their hosts agreed it was the right thing to let Melo and AI go - without any arguments to the contrary. So I wouldn't lock the story in as gold however Irv Brown and Joe Williams were quick to point out that Clough has been practically 100% in reporting Nuggets stories in the past.

bull he's been 100% with the Nuggets in the past, the guy's as clueless as anybody else in the Denver media (although probably the most rational on the station, which says nothing).
If the Nuggets are the only team in the history of professional sports that are willing to take the average coach's side over the young superstar... then they deserve what they get.
Derrick Rose, or go **** yourself. That's what I say to all callers.

I kinda believe this. The Nuggets have a history of having the dumbest front office in the league.
They traded 3 picks and gave Kmart I believe 90 something million
They traded Andre Miller + 2 picks for Iverson
They traded Reggie Evans for a guy who we don't play
They said Karl's job is safe even after Denver failing to advance the past 4 years
That's just recently

That's not entirely fair.
The KMart deal was Kiki's fault; there's a new group now.
Iverson turned out not to be a good move but I supported it at the time and still would say it was worth the risk.
Reggie Evans was making too much money for what he brought to the court, and at the time we had a backlog at the 4 and only 2 centers.
And I know everyone hates Karl but in none of the years do I think I he's the main reason the Nugs haven't made it to the second round.
But why am I not surprised to hear people blaming Karl for the possibility that Carmelo might be traded?
Next thing we know, the typhoon in Myanmar will be his fault too.

Well,
maybe both AI and Carmelo will go, If Carmelo is traded i am sure AI doesn t want to stay(this what the Denver management thinks and want, it will leave them a 35million less to pay next year.
Chicago could bite, Melo + AI(asking AI in advance to opt out and under that they discuss a new contract).
All america is still sure that AI and Melo can mach easily together, just need the right coach, Karl is not...
+ if they can move Camby to another team, Denver will be ready for good, but definitely no playoff next year, maybe not even in 2 years.
A mean it s a choice, imagine people head in chicago after MJ....
I know there is a lot of Melo fans here, and these people unfortunately only look at moving AI because their fav player was not the best this year....
Denver is fed up like Melo is also probably fed up and to repeat Myself like i said in every thread ,it is either you make a global team move or you stay the same and try a new coach, but your Denver board is so damn fo*** that it will not happen for a coach change.
It took how many year to Karl to trust JR....
Denver had the team to get Lakers, they had the team to take any team....the Lakers have PJackson(difference is here) the guy is not sleeping on his belly with a frustrated smile, he analyze and his capable to seat kobe for the whole game if he think it will be the solution, and because they have respect in the coach(not like in Denver) they don t say s*** and they watch!!!!!!!!
If I was in Denver I will go with the more people I can find and manifest "NEW COACH".....lol

I just get tired of reading how Karl is invariably responsible (in part) for everything bad that happens to the team.
Just watch- next time something bad happens, someone on this board will try to pin it on Karl.
And no, I don't think Karl really wants Carmelo to go. Even if he's harboring some ill will toward Carmelo at the moment, it'll blow over.

George Karl is a horrible coach and is responsible for a significant portion, if not the vast majority IMO, of the Nuggets' problems. The reason why so many people complain about him is that it is impossible for the Nuggets to reach our potential with him as our coach, and nothing has been done about it. The writing's on the wall and it has been for a long time: the Denver Nuggets will not get out of the first round with George Karl as a head coach, regardless of roster, period. End of story. It really is that simple.
It is incredibly frustrating that he has not been let go.

Melo is the spirit of this team. We want him to be more mature, but we can only wait and see. Karl wants to get more mature with a business move.....makes sense. Question is, will Melo make the smarter business move and be the mature player Karl and probably everyone wants to see?
The only thing is I could see Karl wanting to make that move simply because he has worked directly with Anthony up to this point so if he's tired of him he is tired of him. The only one who can change that is Anthony.

Sorry but at this point it makes it tough to believe you have any kind of objectivity about the situation.
You have no clue about horrible coaches. Try watching Paul Westhead for a season or Paul Westphal.

And how exactly did Karl coach well this year? He didn't.
And thinking Karl did a horrible job this year, is a pretty objective view of the situation. The team actually started out well with Yak starting at the beginning of the year (who was one of the teams top % 3 shooters) and JR was playing really well. Then he glued Yak to the bench when AC returned and stopping player JR.
How exactly was that good coaching?
And basically having AI run the show wasn't good coaching.
The team being clueless on how to rotate on defense wasn't good coaching.
Karl publicly admitting the team had stopped playing defense and there was nothing that could be done about it wasn't good coaching.
At the end of the season, Karl saying he hadn't done his job this year, definitely shows he didn't think he coached well either.
I think those trying to defend Karl aren't the objective ones.
