Will Wade's 08-09 remind us of Jordan's 95-96?

Will Wade's 08-09 remind us of Jordan's 95-96?

Post#1 » by BRINGTHEPAIN » Wed May 21, 2008 3:39 pm

Not so long ago Wade produced the best NBA Finals by a guard since Jordan left the scene. Then more recently Wade fell far from his lofty standards (although still statistically impressive) and people began to write him off. In light of recent reports that he is completely injury free and training manically with MJ's trainer, I'm thinking this upcoming season could mirror Jordan's 95-96 comeback year. The fact is, nobody can stop Wade if he's 100%, nobody can beat the defense more convincingly, and nobody performs better on the biggest stage.

This will be an interesting thread to revisit. Do you think next season will belong to Wade (along with the possibility Miami could become an Eastern contender by trading for a great or drafting a great?), or do you expect him to fall further in the direction of Penny Hardaway and Grant Hill?

He will be back, if healthy...better than ever.

I think he's really the only player who can challenge Kobe for the tag as best player in the league.

I hope he can come back healthy and better than ever, I love watching him play when healthy.

It's kinda scary that he can average about 27 and 7 playing hurt for 2 seasons.

Man can u imagine D Wade and D Rose in the same backcourt. DAMN!!!

Wade's 08-09 will probably remind us of one of T-Mac's injury filled seasons. Sad but true.

I don't recall Jordan notoriously tanking a season and then complaining that the Bulls "deserved" the first pick of the lotto.

The zone will be great and all but getting them in a half court set might be a little more difficult.

With Rose, Wade and Marion its gonna be hard to keep up.

Unless if Wade develops a jumper, I see another injury sidelining him again. His body can't handle the way he plays. Sometimes you got to be smart about how you try to score instead of putting your head down and violently charging the basket like a running back.

He's going to end up as this generations Grant Hill with his injuries. BOOK IT!

Who on the Heat is going to require the opposing bigs to not shift and help on Wade driving? Haslem is a decent player but he's not a force. Marion is a perimeter offensive player. If they get Rose he's a perimeter guy/penetrator, just like Wade. I'd run a "freak" defense at them, like what Arkansas ran under Nolan Richardson and what the Cavs ran under Fratello--constant switching and matchup zone, everyone collapses into the middle and then flexes out quickly. Teams know they can pound Wade, and with no Shaq there's no big body to make them pay for hammering him every time he tries to drive.

I like the Penny Hardaway analogy better than Grant Hill, FWIW. Hill was more unlucky; Penny was fragile.

Anyone expecting Rose to be an impact player as a rookie is being more than a little optimistic. Beasley will be able to score from day one, but the heat aren't in a position to contend. The Heat would have to win the championship for the "season to belong to him." The Heat will be in a fight to make the playoffs, they have no chance of winning it all.
