Cant believe he did it soo soon.
This is great news because I truely believe that the first thing this team needs in order to recover from a bad season and bounce back into a top 6 Eastern team is their leader to be healthy.

I'm glad that he's started training early. I'm expecting big things from him next season - time to shut the haters up =D.

Hey, I know you didn't mean anything negative towards the team, but it just doesn't leave so much hope for me. It's pretty much why I'm all up for rebuilding.

Good news.

A healthy Vince is a start. I hope he has the same mentality coming into the upcoming season that he had at the end of last. Need a full season of that or Nets sink again.

IMO there's way too many question marks about the current projected starting lineup. If Devin / RJ / VC are all still around at the beginning of the season they all have ? to their games that must be positively answered for this team do any damage.

The full roster as is is just way too flawed to be good consistently unless 2 of 3 of Devin/VC/RJ has monster seasons while the 3rd has a good or there is a surprise within (major improvement by SWat or some other bench player for example).

Look dude I have the atmost respect for you but come on how is this not good news?
With a healthy VC we were 4-1 to begin the season that's pretty damn good if you ask me.
When was the last time you saw a team sucssed with its leader carrying a half dead ankle,

Do you remember who else we had when we started 4-1 (Other than Collins :D )? It's not that I'm not trying to see the upside, but if 6 in the East is the best thing we have to look forward to as a middle of the pack team again, we need to seriously consider rebuilding.

If we were talking about Ike Tur- er i mean, Jason Kidd, i'm sure this would have been great news to hear...j/k

All jokes aside this is great to hear, and props to Vince for setting the tone early by handling business right after the season ended instead of waiting a few weeks before training camp to have surgery. Just another positive sign of Vince's professionalism since he's become the captain of this team. Props to VC

Er....rebuilding has already started with the trade of Kidd for Devin Harris and the upcoming trade of Richard Jefferson....

The front office is attempting to make moves, so i think we need to give the offseason a little bit of time before we doom ourselves to 6th place in the east.

Rich, I am with you.

Yeah, I am happy VC is off crutches. I hope he makes a full recover and is back to form so he somewhat raises his value. If people think he is in our future after 2010, you guys are delusional. Only way VC helps us for 2010 is that he is traded for basically what we got for Kidd or he is included in a S&T for Lebron, Wade or Bosh because his contract is partially guaranteed the year after 2010.

So lets throw in the towel for two seasons to pick up either LBJ, Wade or Bosh.

I mean really are these guys only ones that can play basketball? First do we know these players will be healthy by this time?

It is good to be prudent and prepare for that FA summer but with the suggestion of rebuilding that doesnt mean that a organization needs to stop competing.

Granted we shouldnt want to play for the six spot in the playoff.

A rebuilding mode doesn't have to be specifically targeted towards a cetain player or even a certain offseason. Rebuilding can last one season to even twenty. Smart GMs have shorter rebuilding modes. However, with our contracts now and the players, we have we're at the worst place in the league...right in the middle. When you're not contending, you want to get under that cap and rebuild through high draft picks and good free agent signings.

This team currently has no direction at all. Can you even tell me where the team is headed? Barring a major trade, that's not going to change come draft time even if we were to miraculously pick Rose or Beasly. With our current line of players, we're good enough for 1st round exits or on the borderline of missing playoffs. Not good enough. Our current cap situation makes us frozen. We can't make any moves for even average role players. Our best trading chips also have pretty long contracts so it's hard enough to get a trade. Our best option right now is to rebuild. As good as Thorn is, we're not going to become contenders trading the players we currently have.

The worst place is the midle of the road. So then we will become Memphis and dump the two remaining large contracts and settle in for the ride.

I dont think no one on this board can say what direction the team is going.

I actually think the way Memphis and Seattle ( especially Memphis ) rebuild is not the the best solution . Just dump everybody and hope you have some Draftluck is pure crapshot . It can take decades to get out of there again . Try to make the best out of the assets you have not just to settle for the draft .

Trades and Free Agency are also good possibilites if you know what you're doing .

A little unfair to judge the rebuilding efforts of Seattle (started in June) and Memphis (started in January) no?

You are right alone that the draft alone is not enough, for that reason, it's too early to judge the rebuilding of Seattle/Memphis when they've yet to take advantage of free agency and the cap room they've been creating.

I don't think anyone in favor of rebuilding is a proponent of merely "dumping" RJ and Carter for nothing.

Seattle just traded away Ray Allen and let go of Rashard Lewis last summer. They've got Kevin Durant to build around and the number 4 this year. Definitely not done rebuilding, but not the worst of starts either. Memphis just had their fire sale near the last trade deadline. These are horrible cases to have in your favor.

Trades and Free Agency are also good possibilites if you know what you're doing .

Like I've said. This is essentially what we need to do, but to do this we need to rebuild. Our assets aren't that great to start with as we've got a player with a bad league reputation in VC and a false injury-prone reputation in RJ. We're not going to do any damage come playoff time even if we were to find someone willing to trade with us. Our current contracts put us right near the salary cap for us to do any damage come free agent signings. We have no assets. Assets as in: "I want to play with that guy (or coach), so I'll take less money to sign there" or "Man, what a great location. I'd take less moeny to play there". I'm not saying we should trade those guys for nothing, but there are three things a team in rebuilding mode should want through trade:

- Young Talent
- Expirings
- 1st round picks

Fulfill two of the above three in a trade and I will gladly consider it. I know it's never good to make a trade for the sake of making one (Look at the Knicks). This is essentially what rebuilding is. Get the high draft picks, get rid of your horrible contracts, and sign free agents who can really help this team instead of getting guys like Magloire. Money talks in this league. When you've got all the money a player is asking for, he'll certainly listen. Right now, we've got nothing. Yes, rebuilding may take a while, BUT like you stated it will help if we had guys who knew what they were doing. Thorn and Kiki would definitely know what they would be doing.

Then again, why did I even explain that? No one knows what direction the team wants to take.

Not completely.

We have to still be competitive.

As long as Harris, S.Will, Boone, whatever happens to the #10 pick, whatever happens to the #21 pick, RJ or whatever we get for him, and whatever we get for VC work hard and win some games for the next 1-2 years will determine where this organization will be going. That is the reality. Unless there is an offer we cant refuse, the only player from our current roster I can honestly say is still going to be here for the 2010-11 season is going to be Harris, IMO. Everyone else most likely will be gone.
