why all the nelly hate????

Post#1 » by fluffhead » Tue May 20, 2008 7:46 pm

do we not remember the previous 12 seasons: cowens, musselman, saint, montgomery, etc.....all warrior fans should be thankful that he came back and rescued this franchise
do we not remember the team that mully put together not too long ago:

fisher
richardson
dunleavy
murphy
foyle

all five of these guys were signed to long deals, this was the team mully put together
to lead this team thank god that nelly came back and saved us, if he left now it probably would'nt take long for us to go right back to the cellar of the league.

Simply put:

He plays a gimmicky style of basketball that will win more regular season games than a traditional style (if used right) but is not conducive to winning a championship. He has completely erased post basketball from our minds - one of the essentials to winning a ring - and has never built, been part of, or been near, a contending team.

His job is to take horrible franchises and fix them up for the next guy. He did that 1 calendar year ago. We have talent now that he doesn't know how to use.

Why are you assuming, fluff, that Nelson got rid of Foyle, Murphy, Dunleavy, Fisher and JRich? Yes, Mullin messed it up, but we're instantly giving the credit to Nellie? ROWELL (the poster) seems to believe Rowell (the President of Basketball Operations) was the mind behind all the deals. Either way - crediting one over the other (and not Mullin, at all) is a biased way to look at it.

Truth be told, I'm sure the "anti-Nellie" people here would gladly take Nellie as HC 2 years ago, when we were a mess w/Baron already quitting on the team. Last year? No way... This year? :banghead:

Thats right, because before Nellie we had post season and championship basketball fresh in our minds right? I forgot.

Fluff...people here want a NBA Championship today. Nellie doesnt have the players to do so. But everyone here feels the Warriors are championship material. So when things go south you blame the man in charge.

in 2002 Nellie took the Mavs to the West Finals. i would say that is close to winning a ring.
Lets Go Baron Davis...i dont care what jersey you put on. Lets go.

That was Avery. Do you have to get something wrong in every post? Is there a quota?

i forgot that he coached the Mavs to the Conference Finals in 2002. He had to have been the player coach to do that.

you indeed are impressive.[/b]

Avery Johnson is amazing.

He went from coaching the Mavs to the Conference Finals in 2002.
Then in 2003 he is Nick Van Exels backup in Oakland.

how can you not give credit to nelly, once he got here it all changed. he's proven time and again to be able to turn a disaster around. and please don't give any credit to rowell, he's been here forever

Are you this out of touch with the Warriors?

Rowell took major financial decision-making responsibilities away from Mullin roughly the time the Warriors began to improve. Nelson counts, no one said he didn't (did they?), but the way you've simplistically conflated Nelson's coaching with lots of other moves and philosophies in the front office is misguided, at best.

Because Nelly is fat, and plays a fast paced style... isn't that weird, team is in shape, yet the coach is out of shape. So he is basically telling our team to run when he can't even do it himself.

Leaving aside the five rings as a player with the Celts, Nellie coached teams have played in conference final series four times. If that doesn't count as contending, then you've just divulged how biased your measuring stick is.

Sorry that I base contending on actually having a chance to win the title...

I absolutely love the hypocrisy of the homer crew... Nellie gets all the credit for the good moves and can't have ANY criticism for his mishandling of POB, his inability to stand up to Baron Davis until it didn't matter, and his complete lack of planning or teaching of any kind of defense...

I especially love the theory that we traded JRich to get Wright... god that was a classic one... traded right in front of the assumed Yi destination. I wonder if Mullin or Rowell would have been to blame then... nah... I'm sure somehow Vaki could tie it into Monta being an average player and the worst defender in the history of the NBA

Please explain the evidence you have that the Warriors were trading up to get Yi. You seem confident about that statement.

And dont give theories, give facts. Any loudmouth can have a theory relating to a Chinese marketing coup, but it proves nothing whatsoever. Just a pure simple answer with hard evidence to back you up.

And if you are so fair and impartial, why dont you tell me 5 things that you feel Nellie has done right since his arrival. I am sure that it wont be a problem since our team has obviously improved in the present, but also appears to be in great position for the future. Fire away...

It was acceptable all along to the FO to trade Jason+2nd rounder for Wright+TE, otherwise the deal would not have transpired. The trade cannot be spun as a botched Yi trade.

You could claim the Warriors would have preferred Yi (though I don't know on what basis), but the one thing we know for certain is that they were happy to do the deal for Wright.

There were 4 teams vying for Yi services: Hawks, Celtics, Bulls and Warriors. It was established early on that the Hawks were taking Al Horford. When the Celtics traded their pick, only two pre-determined teams were Yi's handlers destinations. We trade up to the #8, leapfrogging the Bulls. There is absolutely no way you could assume teams that were kept from seeing Yi play would be drafting him.

Enter Larry Harris, jumping on the grenade for our franchise.

The W's had to be STUNNED to hear that. Unbelievably though, the Wolves decided on Brewer over Wright, and the end result winds up good for us. Of course it was 'acceptable' for our franchise (re: Mullin, Rowell, whoever the 'other' decision makers are) - there was no way we thought Wright would be there. If both were still there, its obvious we'd have Yi... What would Nellie be sticking around for if they were trading a key player and not getting someone that fit his style?
