How far off are Bayless & Mayo from Rose?
My dream of having Rose and Durant together unfortunately did not come to be. So I'm thinking the Sonics will now draft either of these too (hopefully they see that the PG position is ESSENTIAL in winning a championship). How far off are these guys and can they be part of a winning team seeing how scoring PG's are almost never successful in this league?
I have never seen Bayless play, I've seen Mayo play a few times and I kind of doubt he will defer to Kevin Durant. But who knows, he did play with that guy... Bill Walker is his name? And they played really well together.

They are not that far off right now, IMO. What makes Rose so special is all the potential he has to be a player tailor made for the NBA game.

You know while I think OJ can have a higher ceiling, Bayless I think has a way better chance to fit along side KD. I think when you have a player like KD you can't draft anothe ball dominate wing and expect them to really thrive. Bayless I think could play alot like a more explosive Jason Terry. He could do real damage off the ball as a shooter, while attacking in the fast break.

I think Mayos lack of quickness will hurt him at the next level..
I think Bayless is very close to Rose...his athleticism is underrated..his size is the same..though hes not a strong he can finish with contact and gets to the line plenty. Hes a much better shooter..
Rose will flirt with triple doubles plenty of times and be better all around..but while Bayless wont fill up the stat sheet...i can see him scoring more points a game.

There is the fact that Mayo is 90% sure the wolves pick also. Almost anyone I talked to in the last couple weeks had Mayo as the 3rd guy.

DX also has Beasley going 1st to the Bulls which won't happen. The Wolves aren't in position to draft for need yet, so if McHale pulls his head out of his ass, he'll take the best player available: Mayo.

For all his talent, i'd fight shy of Mayo. His actions with Guillory show him to be a punk whose word isn't worth jack . . . that's the kind of character issue that will probably come up again.

Those are media or 3rd party. Some have league connections others simply guess. They have good write-up for prospects, but often times the mock is off.

Why exactly is Mayo the better player? He sure wasn't last year. In fact, in a year of freshman superstars he was about 8-10 down the list. Mayo lacks the jumpshot, foot speed, and lateral quickness to be a star in the NBA. I fully expect Mayo to be good, but Lopez walks into the league good and has a chance to be an all star big man.
If McHale is smart, he will take Lopez and grin watching him and Jefferson play togther the next 10 years. But, McHale is not smart, so he will probablty continue to stockpile score only combo guards like the Detroit Lions of the NBA. And oddly, that seems to be what everyone wants him to do.

You said 90% of people have Mayo going to the Wolves, I don't know who these people are because most credible sorces have them taking Lopez at this point.

mayo's greatest asset is also his greatest weakness
he has an awesome jumper and tends to rely on it too much
if you were to compare rose to mayo. I would say mayo is more skilled as a player, especially when it comes to shooting, scoring, setting up in the triple threat but derrick rose is a thosand times more athletic and that more than makes up for anything he lacks in skill (at the time being anyways)
give rose a few years he'll pick up everything he can't do now where as mayo can only learn to play smarter, he can't get any more athletic...
bayless, haven't watched enough of him to make an honest opinion, but he didn't make it very far in march madness did he? and he was paired w/ chase budinger who's no scrub himself...

Now why I don't think Lopez is a BAD pick, this is just wrong. Foye isn't a combo guard unless TP is one. Telfair is obviously a point. McCants is a true SG, Jaric isn't a score first type player or a combo guard (he's more of a combo-everything-not-post). And if the difference between Mayo's potential and Lopez's potential is what it looks to be, this would be like taking Powe over Arenas.
What Minny should really do is take Mayo and trade back into the 1st using McCants and/or their 2nd rounders to pick up someone like Hibbert, McGee, or Robin Lopez.

Did you just compare Lopez to Leon Powe? Did you just compare Mayo to Gilbert Arenas? Wow.

I like the idea of taking Mayo and trading back into the 1st with one of their surplus guards. I'd be happier with Hibbert anyhow. I'm shocked how he's falling. To be honest, I was never that impressed with either Lopez twin. I'd rather take a bit of shaky mechanics to get size and a Georgetown pedigree.

Mayo is, in my opinion, going to be a better pro than Rose.
Mayo has an outstanding jumper. When he gets in the NBA with the increased spacing and on a team that has some inside options he's going to be solid. His defence is top-notch. He's a tweener in a positive way and a gym rat.
Rose has a poor outside shot and little mid-range game. I see him struggling his first year as the defence sags off him and dares him to shoot.
