Krish (Memphis): Chad, love the chats and posts. PLEASE tell me that the Grizzlies are not the team that has promised DeAndre Jordan the 5th pick. I think he's going to be terrible (and I also think OJ Mayo is going to just be average). Kevin Love is the right choice for them.
SportsNation Chad Ford: (2:27 PM ET ) Maybe they'll package the pick and Mike Miller for more expiring contracts and late first round picks. Who knows what the Grizzlies will do. They really need a big, but the best players available right now are probably guards. Anthony Randolph would be intriguing.
Rumor: DeAndre Jordan gets promise in top 5.

My guess is it's probably a rumor started by the Jordan camp, his agent etc. No team in their right mind would give a promise to some one they've seen so little of. You would at least have to have Jordan in for a workout for yourself before you made a promise because there is such a little body of work to grade him on right now (no playing time).

Kwame Brown-esque, maybe? I've never seen Jordan play, but there are "workout warriors" in every sport that blow away scouts and executive types with amazing 40 times and vertical leaps and such... then looking back five years later an ugly fundamentally sound guy like Kevin Love turns out to be the more productive player. Is Jordan one of these workout warriors?

I think he might be one of those guys but once you put him in a five on five setting you will just

He is a great project if he was out of the lotto but not as a top five pick.

I would guess that if anyone in the top 5 made a promise to him, it would've been Memphis. They really have nothing to lose at this point. With the PG spot loaded, Gay and Miller on the wings, and a slew of decent role players...they could use a "potential" dominant big man. Good risk, IMO. And at the very least, it wouldn't be as bad as a Sheldon Williams promise.....ugh. Everyone involved in that decision needs to be fired.

It's Memphis. Not only do they need a big man but their coach is Mark Iavaroni, an assistant under D'Antoni with the Suns. Iavaroni is attempting to install D'Antoni's system in Memphis, with that in mind they'd obviously be looking at a very athletic big man who can run the floor to play the center spot. Well, Jordan pretty much fits that system more than any other big in the draft.
As far as Lopez's availablity, if the Wolves pass on him, the Sonics will definately take him.
