Detailed Lottery picks 1-14

Post#1 » by mobiuseinz » Wed May 21, 2008 4:00 pm

1. Chicago: Derrick Rose, PG
- Chicago can't go wrong with this pick because both Kirk Hinrich and Ben Gordon are expandable, and could be traded for a big man. Rose has the ability to get others involved, yet is explosive enough and quick enough to get his own shot. He won't be on the same level as Chris Paul, but could be a player right behind CP3

2. Miami: Michael Beasley, PF
- Weather Marion decides to stay or leave Miami, it doesn't really Matter, because Beasley can either fill in for Marion or play along-side him. Marion or Beasley could play either forward spot, but Beasley offers low-post scoring which the Heat truly lack. Either way, the Heat could be a fun team to watch.

3. Minnesota: O.J. Mayo. SG
-Hear me out on this one, McCants' future is to be a 6th man... Foye can run their system, and Jefferson is a beast down low... the missing piece? A player who can create his own shot and is not afraid to take over the game in the 4th quarter. Foye, Mayo, and Jefferson could be a nightmare trio to go up against in 2-3 years.

4. Seattle: Jerryd Bayless, G
- Bayless can play either guard position, which could be usefull, because Durant looks to be more effective at the 3 spot than at the 2. I can see the Sonics turn into a run-and-gun team like the Warriors. They certainly have the tools if they draft Bayless.

5. Memphis: Brook Lopez, C
- With no Gasol, and Milicic not performing as one would hope, drafting Lopez is a no-brainer. He gives them inside scoring and he is not a bad passer. He will actually be a very good compliment to Hakim Warrick on the block.

6. New York: Anthony Randolph, F
- When you are hailed as the next Lamar Odom, then you should be worth a look. I know Randolph might be a little high going 6th, but with the new direction the Knicks are going, he will actually be more ready to run-and-gun than Curry and Zacharry. The more I think about it, the more I like this pick for the Knicks!

7. Los Angeles: Russell Westbrook, G
-Westbrook is basically a good pick for the Clippers. With Livingston's future not clear yet, they need a guy who can bring up the ball and initiate the offense. Against the Tigers in the Final 4, Westbrook played a phenomenal game against Rose. He can run an offense, as well as score, but his best skill is his defense because of how freakishly athletic he is.

8. Milwaukee: Danilo Gallinari, SF
- The Bucks could either draft a PG, or someone like a scoring SF. I'd lean more towards that scoring SF because they have a little gem from the D-League that played amazing towards the end of the season at Point. Gallinari will help Redd by relieving him of most of the scoring duties.

9. Charlotte: Kevin Love, F/C
-Kevin is not that athletic, but he is smart, and can shoot from the outside just fine. He is a great compliment to Okafor. Guys like Wallace, and Richardson will be enjoying his outlet passes, and in Larry Brown's system he may actually thrive.

10. New Jersey: DeAndre Jordan, C
- Jordan can be a hit or miss, but regardless of that, he's got to be worth at taking a look. The Nets do not have many options, so why not pick the best available talent? He can anchor their defense if he can learn to stay out of foul trouble, and could easily be a 15/12/2 guy in the future.

11. Indiana: D.J. Augustin, PG
- Augustin can run and shoot! Thats what the new look Pacers are striving for, and that's why he'll fit just right into their system. D.J. is a decent guard that is short by NBA's standards, but take a look at T.J. Ford and you can get an idea of how Augustin might develop.

12. Sacramento: Marreese Speights, F/C
- In case you didn't know, Speights actually has a nice stroke from 18 feet. But he is not a finesse PF/C, he actually bangs down-low. If he can get his conditioning right and stay out of foul trouble, Speights could be a steal for the Kings (please draft him Geoff).

13. Portland: Eric Gordon, G
- Gordon will never be a PG, he could always be a serviceable 6th man, or even a starter if Roy moves to the SF position or even takes over at point. Gordon can flat out shoot, and its something the Blazers will need when Oden forces double teams down low.

14. Golden State: Donte Greene, SF
- Greene fits right in with the Warriors; he's long, athletic, and can shoot. With the seeming departure of Barnes, and probably Petrius, I can see the Warriors taking a shot at this kid.

well, there you have it, my Lottery Mock Draft.

If just Jordan is available it's pretty much given that the 10th pick will move elsewhere on draftnight . Either we move up or aquire somebody but Jordan is just no help for the Nets . Way too much of a project and we already have several offensively limited bigmen . We won't add another one . At least i hope ...

Bigmen with offensive potential , 6th men at SG/SF or pick is gone .

Btw i just saw Gordon is still available . He would make much more sense as a big . Ideal 6th man or potential replacement for RJ if we trade him.

LAC, New Jersey or Indiana would ALL take Gordon no hesitation if he was still on the board.

Like the Warriors' pick, though I think we'd go with Arthur over Greene.

majority of wolves fans are for Mayo and Lopez is next. They could use either, but Mayo will make Minnesota relevant again and if we don't use McCants and Walkers expiring to get a big, A guard rotation of foye, mayo and mccants is scary. Mayo playing pg with mccants would be interesting, but it would work. either way, mccants has got to mature and look like he cares about playing d.

Good job and good logic behind your picks.

Mayo is #1 on our wish list in Minny.
If they draft Lopez or Galinari half of the die-hards in the fanbase are going to revolt (myself included). The other half would buy into the "Need" logic behind the pick, but not be excited by it.
Taylor is losing alot of money and he is desperate to put butts in the seats, if you bank on anything, bank on Mayo not slipping past 3.

Lopez at 3 on many mock drafts seems like a logical "wish pick" because of our need at C, so someone falls to your team. Don't believe it.
Also we made much better picks last year after McHale was stripped of complete control in favor of a "roundtable" approach.
Fred Hoiberg is being groomed as our GM of the future and one of his mentors is Tim Floyd of USC, so do the math.

I see Anthony Randolph going 5th to Memphis because of his athleticism and ability to dribble and run the floor in Iavaroni's system.
I see Lopez falling to the Bobcats at 9 because of team needs and his inferior athleticism to the other prospects.

DeAndre Jordan will go higher than he should because of his freakish athleticism. Someone will be sorry because he is a long ways away from doing anything other than dunking on the offensive end or understanding team schemes.

Speights will go higher than most think. Nets at 10 would be a very good pick, he shouldn't slip past the kings though. Bobcats and Bucks should also give him serious consideration.

DJ Augustin to the clips at 7 would be a great pick and the perfect fit for him.

My top 35:
1. Chi - Rose (hometown kid)
2. Mia - Beasley (Heat badly, badly need inside presence).
3. Min - Mayo
4. Sea - Bayless - guy who can push the ball to make this team exciting.
5. Mem - A. Randolph
6. NY - Danilo Galinari - perfect D'antoni SF.
7. LAC - DJ Augustin - Perfect PG for them, with all their players healthy again landing a PG will make the Clips respectable once more if they can hold onto Elton Brand.
8. Bucks - Donte Greene - nice inside/outside game to compliment redd and mo williams.
9. Bobcats - Brook Lopez - offensive yin to Okafor's defensive yang.
10. NJ - Marrese Speights - they need someone who can score on the block, Speights is closest thing. Also darrell arthur is a possibility. They will try to trade up gor galinari, greene, or lopez.
11. Ind - Eric Gordon Combo Guard, not much for passing, but teaming him with granger and dunleavy gives them a potent offense.
12. Sac. - Darrell Arthur PF - Speights, Greene higher on wish list but Arthur is pretty good too.
13. Por - R. Westbrook G - this is one of the harder picks to project, logic says PG or SF, but Roy's versatility makes any wing player fair game.
14. GS - DeAndre Jordan - Warriors like projects, is good insurance if they can't afford Biedrins. What happens with Biedrins and Ellis as RFA's is the key to this pick.
15. PHX - Joe Alexander SF
16. Phi - Ty Lawson PG - point guard of the future.
17. Tor - C. Budinger SG - need another shooter.
18. Was - Javale McGee C
19. Cle - Chris Douglas G
20. Den - Kosta Koufos C
21. NJ - Brandon Rush SG/SF
22. Orl - Roy Hibbert C
23. Utah - R.Lopez C
24. Sea - Niklas Batum SF
25. Hou - Jason Thompson PF/C
26. SA - C. Lee SG
27. NO - C. Douglas SG
28. Mem - JJ Hickson PF
29. Det - A. Ajinca C
30. Bos - Bill Walker SF
31. Min - Devon Hardin C
32. Sea - JR Giddens SG
33. Por - W. Ellington SG
34. Min - Ryan Anderson PF
35. LAC - N. Pekovic C

I just realized I left Kevin Love out. oops. put him at 14 to the warriors and send DeAndre Jordan back to school where he belongs.

There are rumors in the NY papers that DeAndre Jordan has a promise by a top 5 team and has declined proposed workouts for certain lottery teams already.

Well we know its not Chicago and Miami, so that leaves Memphis (of the three likely), Minnesota (they gonna pass on everyone) and Seattle (0% chance)

I think the Warriors would take Joe Alexander over Greene at this point.

Here's my adjustment Mobi:

1) Beasley - I see Chi-Town opting for Beasley after workouts.
2) Rose
3) Mayo
4) Bayless
5) Jordan - Supposedely he has a top 5 promise and this HAS to be it.
6) Lopez
7) Gordon - Gordon will slide if he's not picked here. He's BPA as well.
8) Gallinari - Just a tremendously nice fit
9) Love
10) Randolph
11) Westbrook
12) Speights - I love this pick for the Kings as well, DJ does nothing for me.
13) Augustin - Blazers get their PG
14) Arthur - I just see him as a nice fit for the W

^^ Arthur would be a good fit for us. Strong rebounder, athletic, can get up and down the floor.

Not really, that's the biggest knock about his game. He's a nice player and may develop into an improved Rebounder, but he has always been questioned in that particular dept of his game. He's still a fluid fit for the W's system IMO.

6.3 rpg in 24 minutes on a STACKED Kansas team...that's pretty good IMO. His big issue IMO is intensity which scares me a little because we've tried the "all the skills but questionable desire" path before and it landed us with Pietrus and POB in the lottery, but if Speights and Alexander are off the board I would have to consider him, along with Donte Greene from 'Cuse.

Eh - well guys like Love/Speights/Beasley will be MUCH better rebounders. I could see Arthur given starters minutes topping out at around 7.5-8.0 a game. He won't be a 9-11 guy like Love, Speights or Beasley IMO.

Yeah...but if we're considering Arthur then Beasley, Love and Speights are off the board at which point it's really irrelevant if they would be better rebounders then Arthur :D
