There is little doubt that the Knicks will shop for a point guard this summer, but at least one has come shopping for them. According to a person with knowledge of the situation, the Warriors' Baron Davis has made inquiries into the interest of certain teams around the league, including the Knicks.

Davis, 29, has an opt-out clause for this summer that could make him a free agent, but the Warriors don't believe he would walk away from the final year and $17.8 million, which is money the dynamic but oft-injured guard likely wouldn't make on the open market. So Davis' only other play is to see if another team would pursue a sign-and-trade for him.

According to the source, his representation, after a preliminary discussion with the Warriors, has put out feelers to gauge the interest of teams in need of an upgrade at point guard.

NY works for me, Toni gets his PG to work with and I get to see BD rock it in NY maybe even catch a couple games, since New York inst to far away, and if it's a sign and trade I'm guessing Marbury comes down here, but he'll probably be bought out if anything, or kept for a year, he's off the books anyways next year, probably be traded to, his contract is worth a freak load.

Why is it that the big media outlets seem to be the most unprofessional?... New York media, along with British media, have to be the most ignorant, uninformed group of "professionals" i have ever seen/read/heard.

I'm an avid international soccer fan, and alot of the junk i read from England would get a journalist fired from my former high school newspaper. The same could be said from sports writers in New York.

The Knicks are in the worse position since they are stuck with Marbs salary and a team that meshes high paid veterans with young players poorly. In other words, they need Baron a lot more than we do and they would have to pay a high price to get him.

The deal that I would demand would be Baron and Harrington for Marbury, D.Lee, Wilson Chandler, the 6 pick, and as much cash as possible.

As long as we traded Baron for a guy like Marbury--who I expect would settle for a buyout-- we would basically ensure ourselves a spot outside the eighth seed. So we would need to treat next year like a rebuilding year, getting as many young pieces together as possible and turning the team over to them.

I would be pretty happy drafting Kevin Love at 6 and Brandon Rush at 14. Its a nice looking young roster that we'd have put together then...

I wouldn't read too mcuh into the article, primarily for the complete lack of credibility for the reasons already mentioned. Ramasar is just doing his due diligence, you know, because it's his job and all. Dubs don't want to extend Baron at the price he's asking, so Baron's just looking at all his options. No biggie. And no way I'd trade Baron for just Marbury and the #6. The first tier of talent is obviously 2 deep and the second tier is 3 deep IMHO (Lopez, Bayless, and Mayo, though I wouldn't touch Brook Lopez with a 10-foot pole in the top-10 of this lottery). That #6 pick misses out on some great talent, and you could probably get comprable talent with the #9 or #10 pick that you would at #6.

Frankly, the only guy I'd really care about getting back from the Knicks is Lee, but there's no way they'd trade Lee and #6 (with Marbury) for Baron. And there's no way Baron opts out. Even if the Knicks tell Baron that they'd love to give him an extension for $20 million per year, Mullin's hardball tactics with the Pietrus situation last year should let Baron know that opting out could really blow up in his face.

Can you blame them? They already have the expiring contract and need to build for the future, not one year of crappy All Star mongering and stat whoring so he can try to soak them for his next contract.

Baron is a one year cap relief option, period, and the bogus suggestion that Walsh would even consider giving up big cap relief AND #6 for something they already have but without the drama (Marbury has not league interest after this year and can be contained, Baron will be campaigning) SHOULD breed contempt from passionate posters.

Milwaukee, likewise, can be crossed off the list now that Hammond is in town. They'll move #8 for cap relief if you take their crappy contracts back (Gadz and Simmons, anyone?) and will move Redd for more first rounders and cap relief.

Love the Baron BS about to hit the fan. Love it.

Kinda interesting. Baron gives them a better option than Marbury in NY (he's worn out his welcome). Al and Jack (Jack's a perfect fit over in NY, the fans would love him and Jack is better suited to be playing back in the East) should do pretty well (as long as Jack can stay out of trouble ).
