What do you guys think about Avery as Bulls Coach?

You know what I just heard him on the radio, he is really interested in Bulls' job and will be talking to Pax today, and I have to say, I am really impressed.

I really think Avery should be the coach of the Bulls. He really developed Devin Harris and helped Dirk expand his game at both ends. He does get best out of his players. Not to mention his success and reputation and all.

I am really pro Avery.

What do you guys think of Avery being a coach of the Bulls? Can he bring Bulls back to the contender? like top 3 in the east?

I dont think he's the best fit, he will try to micromanage the offense and stuff which i dont believe the bulls players will enjoy, considering they were lobbying very hard (according to reports) to Paxson to get D'antoni and how excited they were.

But you never know, he likes playing tough D, something that roster is good and capable at, and d'antoni wasnt going to do anything about the defense, so you just dont know till you see him.

I personally wouldve loved to see the bulls with d'antoni though.

He is by far and away the best coach on the market, but you have to wonder whether his defensive emphasis and tendency to ride his players will be too similiar to Skiles and therefore ineffective.

Chicago needs to keep Avery as far away from Rose as possible.

Avery should go after the job considering he can turn things around and all the credit will fall on him. That's a wise decision on his part to chase the job. I'd like to see Avery land with a team that's actually rebuilding.

He's a Scott Skiles clone. He's the best available coach, but I don't think its a great fit.

if scott skiles wore out his welcome in chi-town, then why would they want another just like him?

i think based solely on what weve seen of avery so far, he needs to be a guy who takes a sub-par team and cleans it up, brings it to another level, then bails...

i dont know, avery seems like a lateral move for the bulls....

avery might be great in a place like denver, where the discipline is lax

If I'm Avery I wait till the playoffs are done. Something tells me whoever loses the ECF is going to be in the market for a new coach.

The Bulls should go after Doug Collins.

Collins is good enough to make the team a 50-win team within a couple seasons. He's optimistic enough, but also a bit of a stickler and a good in-game coach.

He bombed with the Wizards due to MJ and loyalty with well over-the-hill Oakley.

Still, I think the man's good strategist and a good teacher.

Laid back won't win you championships. Look at D'Antoni. The only one who pulls this off is Phil, but you can practically hear the man calculating his thoughts every time he speaks. You know there's a lot going on up there with Phil, he's proven, and he's always handling headcases.

That is not the Bulls' problem.

Your point being? Laid-back doesn't necessarily go hand-in-hand with not holding your players accountable. A coach can esily be laid-back and still demand perfection. Being positive is just a bonus to young players, since they respond to positive environments. Since we have the youngest team in the league, that is now necessary.

Uhm.. Sure. But we don't have Phil Jackson. So kind of a moot point.

I don't think Avery Johnson is a good fit, I see him bouncing around to somebody like the Hawks, making them respectable and then taking over the Spurs in 2 or 3 years when they rebuild. If we hire him we should have just kept Skiles.

I think we need an older guy with a mild-mannered style, our next coach probably isn't the one who's going to be coaching us in the finals. My dream would be to hire someone like John Lucas, Jim Cleamons or Paul Silas and groom Scottie Pippen to be the next coach. If we do go with a younger guy now, I think Kurt Rambis is my favorite of all the names that have been thrown out there.

The Bulls need someone who will run them up and down the court. With Rose leading the fastbreak and guys like Deng and Thomas running with him they would become one of the best offenses in the league. Avery IMO is the opposite of that. I still think that Mark Jackson is the best fit.

This really depends on who they draft. If they draft Rose, Avery may not be the way they want to go. If they draft beasley, I think he can fit in nicely.

I'm a huge Johnson fan. He deserves a team. But I think the Bulls should wait after the NBA Draft to hire a coach.
