Could Utah Trade Boozer This Summer?

Carlos Boozer struggled during the postseason, and the Jazz could look to deal him before he has the ability to opt out of his contract in 2009 and become an unrestricted free agent, according to The Salt Lake Tribune.

Rumor has it that the Miami Heat are beginning to target Boozer should he exercise his early-termination option next summer, which may lead Utah to deal him for something in return.

Boozer also owns a home in South Florida, further adding to the speculation that he wouldn't mind joining Pat Riley in Miami.

However, it's still possible that Boozer could remain with the Jazz and re-sign for a maximum contract after exercising his clause next summer.

With all thats looming this summer (and Riles' prolonged "silence"), I could see this happening. Aside from all that, where could he go?

What does Miami have to offer? I doubt they are willing to give up their draft pick and the Jazz would be stupid to trade Boozer for Marion.

He's going to opt out next year seeing that he can get another 5 year contract worth at least 15 mil a year. He would be dumb not too.

And in that case the Jazz need to realize they can't afford him, move him to the East, and maybe get a good draft pick out of it, even if it means taking on a bad contract, most likely something expiring.

sure they COULD trade him, but it doesnt mean they will. if they dont spend on him theyre nuts. ship AK for a smaller contract and realize itll be a tough year, but it will be worth it.

The Jazz are going to backstab him and send him to SouthBeach, before he tries and get an extension.

Would they ask for the #2? Nah...but realistically though, what are the odds that THIS particular inquiry could happen?

I guarantee you there have been talks. And don't dismiss the #2 pick, Boozer would make them a conteder in the East, and don't forget the Jazz have a 2010 unprotected first rounder from the Knicks who don't look to be getting all that much better in the next two years.

The Jazz give them Boozer and a future lottery pick for the #2 and an expiring contract. That's not a bad deal for either team.

They could, but they are also going to give Deron the max in July, which would give them Boozer, Deron and Kirilenko all at max deals. The Jazz owner Larry H. Miller doesn't want to go into the luxury tax unless the Jazz are the front runners for the ring, which with that line up they probably wouldn't be.

Even though Boozer was bad in the playoffs, they really need to keep Boozer. Without him, they lose a lot of post offense and post defense in that lineup. Aside from Williams, they'll end up being too much of a jumpshooting team.

You can't be serious about that.

They would lose their inside presence. Okur has gotten better but not good enough to carry the team inside.

Miami would be stupid not to give up #2 for Boozer. That's a steal, and I honestly think Utah would be making a big mistake by dealing him. If you're going to trade someone with a max deal, trade AK's weak ass out of Salt Lake.

If the Jazz moved Boozer out, it would open up space for Okur to move back to his natural position, a place he has been great when Boozer has gone down with injury, and open up more time for Millsap and Fesenko, both very good defenders down low.

Then add in the #2 pick, that's still a very dangerous team, and they are just younger and have a longer future together.

I completely disagree. The Heat would be incredibly stupid to trade the #2 for Boozer. Why? Because Boozer most likely will be a FA next year, and wants to play in Miami (I beleive he has family in South Florida?). So why trade a potential all-star (in Beasley or Rose), for a guy you can probably get next off-season?

Fair enough. But I stand by my idea that Utah giving up Boozer is bad move.

theyd need some major cap space that the Marion contract alone isnt gonna clear.
