DeAndre Jordan has a top 5 promise?

Post#1 » by gswhoops » Fri May 23, 2008 8:36 pm

I've seen this around but does anyone have a link to verify the story? And also, who do you think it is? Obviously it's not Chicago or Miami, which leaves Minny, Seattle and Memphis.

probably Memphis, Iavaroni probably thinks he's just like Amare and Chris Wallace is a bad GM. Perfect combination for some Deandre Jordan action at pick #5.

Yeah I'm curious about which New York source it is, because most of them are utter crap.

I said this a couple of months back. SEA is taking Jordan. Just look at their last few drafts. They keep busting on big men. They are still looking for a legit C, and I think they are picking Jordan even over Bayliss.

Yeah but they have a different GM from before, and even if they didn't you'd think they'd learn their lesson.

as absurd as it would be, it definentely wouldn't surprise me if clay Bennett puts pressure on Presti to draft Jordan. Not only would it be a pure potential pick, it would make the sonics worse next year and alienate the fan base even more. maybe I am on crack and believe conspiracy theories too much.

It's absurd...

...but in the world of Clay Bennett, anything is possible.

If it would further alienate Seattle, he'd do it.

It is far too early for Jordan (or anyone else) to have a promise. This screams of BS.

Yeah, hasn't even Chad Ford come out and debunked this?

I wouldnt be shocked. The two worst GMs in the NBA just so happen to be picking in the top 5. I wouldnt be the least bit surprised to see McHale or Wallace give him a promise. Chris Wallace probably thinks its Michael Jordan's son.

There is no way it is Minny giving him a promise its not like anyone above them is going to pick him

This better be a joke if everyone is pointing to the Grizzlies as the culprit. Jordan is so underdeveloped that he is one of the riskiest players in this draft. At least guys like Randolph have some perimeter skills. Jordan is purely a post finisher at this point, who is also an excellent athlete. Because of his physicality, he will be a good rebounder in the league. But every aspect of his post game speaks bust. Sure, someone may be able to harness his potential, but he was certainly exposed when he matched up against foreigners. These more skilled players really took him out of his element and exposed him for the pure athlete that he is.

If GMs really think Jordan resembles Howard even in the slightest, Jordan is going top five. The draft at this point appears to be pretty weak after the top three, maybe even the top two. There will be at least one team out there looking for the home run pick and Jordan is a hanging curve ball.

It would not surprise me at all if Jordan goes in the top 5. It would however surprise me if he already had a promise in the top 5 before teams worked him, or the other top guys out. Makes no sense.

Most likely its Minnesota at #3, they need big man more than any of the other top 5 teams.

It is a little early for talk about promises. But Jordan up until this week wasn't even a lottery pick in a lot of mock drafts. Somebody could have made the promise because they feared Jordan could pull his name out of the draft if he didn't think he'd go high enough.

Seattle and Memphis are in much more need of a big man than Minny, who at least have one whereas the other 2 teams don't.

If somebody has actually made such a promise its absolutely got to be Chris Wallace, keep in mind this is the same guy that made a promise to Kedrick Brown coming out of Juco with a lottery pick in a great and deep 2001 based on physical ability and upside.
