What kind of player is Jerryd Bayless?
I've never seen Bayless play, but I've been wondering about him. He is described as a scoring guard: he's not a real playmaker, yet he lacks size to play SG (6'3" with a 6'3" wingspan apparently). Sounds like a typical tweener, the kind of player everyone wants on their team as a 6th man. Yet espn, nbadraft.net and DX all have him going 4th.
What kind of role would he play in the NBA? Which player is he similar to? A rich man's Mo Williams, or Leandro Barbosa with better defense, or a more team oriented AI?

Smooth and explosive at same time...Very intelligent and crafty player. Can pick apart defenses using his athleticism and Bball IQ. HIs pull up jump shot is his bread and butter. I think if he refines his ball handling il more hes gonna be absollutely lethal on the offensive end. The way he plays reminds a lil of Ray Allen. Downside of him..is his lack of wingspan. Needs to better improve his shot selection, but I think thats partly b/c he feels he can't be guarded. He has some playmaking abilty from what I'v seen of him, but its not where he can play full time at pg. More a combo guard IMO. I project him at the Gilbert Arenas level in the league.

He reminds me of Chauncey Billups coming out of college and I think he'll have a very good NBA career but just as with Chauncey he is going to need some time to figure out the PG position at the NBA level.
Now i'm not saying he'll be 24/25 when he figures it out like it took Chauncey Billups to do. I think had Billups been healthy and not been moved from team to team he'd have figured it out around age 22/23.
I think the Sonics would be the ideal landing place for Jared Bayless if they trade Luke Ridnour and let him back up Earl Watson until he can actually win the position from him instead of having it handed to him.

Jerryd Bayless was and is already a better offensive player than Earl Watson can even dream about and will probably beat him out for the starting job anyway. Seattle has zero chance of making the playoffs unless Bayless and Durant become Jordan-esque and establishing them as a future All-Star 1-2 combo is the best thing they could do.

Not only to the rim at will, but also very adept at drawing the foul and getting to the line. Definitely can create for himself, the question is if he can do the same for his teammates on a consistent basis.

I'd love to see Bayless teamed with Brandon Roy in Portland. It seems like his perimeter shooting and ability to get to the rim, combined with Roy's ball handling and passing skills would make a great combo out of the gate.
And eventually, as Bayless became a better PG, it'd be an amazing combo...

By all accounts Bayless is a RICH man's Monta Ellis, considering they're the same size, have the same athletic ability, and Bayless not only HAS a jump shot, but a very reliable one.

Did you stop watching Ellis in 2005? Ellis has an excellent midrange jump shot.

Very athletic explosive combo guard who can get to the rim with ease and has a decent perimeter shot. NOT a true PG/playmaker -- tends to be very turnover-prone at times and isn't real comfortable having to run an offense, although iproved a little bit in this area as season went along. Has been descried by some scouts as a "me first" guy who doesn't make his teammates any better. But very very talented as a scorer.

Wow no way is he a more dynamic or athletic Arenas if he was he would be the number 1 pick in the draft. Arenas is probably the most athletic PG in the NBA and is the fastest player in the NBA with the ball in his hand. He also is one of the best shooters in the NBA and a legit 6-4 212 lb's big enough to play the SG.
Bayless is a poor mans Monte Ellis. An undersized SG.
