First woman in the NBA?

Post#1 » by asdfgh » Sun May 25, 2008 11:24 pm

Will Jaime Nared be the first woman to play in the NBA? She's a 12-year old girl from Oregon who is 6-1 tall and was banned from playing with the boys because she was kicking their ass and upsetting the parents who saw their sons being beaten up by a girl

That's what they have the WNBA for.

There has been only one woman to ever play for an NBA team. Well, not officially, but she went to training camp with the Indiana Pacers in the early 90's, I'm not sure of her name though...

And no, she will end up in the WNBA. It's better that the WNBA keeps getting more and more talent rather than having a select few try and join the NBA. They may as well make a name for themselves - like Candace Parker - in the WNBA.

Thats Ann Meyers the general manager for the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and vice president of the NBA's Phoenix Suns.

In 1980, Ann made NBA history when she signed a $50,000 no-cut contract with NBA's Indiana Pacers. She participated in three-day tryouts for the team, the first by any woman for the NBA, but eventually was not chosen for the final squad

Just because Yahoo and probably other sites headlined it with bullshi* about possibly being the first female in the nba doesn't mean it will happen. . . . It won't. . And yahoo(and those other sites) know it. That's the media, rightfully so, they sell stories. . .hype, essentiially. . what better way than to get the world's attention than to shout that. . .Hey, be honest, how many of us guys would even give the headline a second glance if all it said was 12 year old girl basketballer banned from boys league. . . . .

She's 6 foot. . .at 12. . .She's still a female. . It's unlikely she'll grow to match her training. I mean. . .6 foot for most females in high school is Center. . .6 foot for a male in high school is PG. . .Ya know. . She's big for a girl and plays that way. . but. . .Put her in the nba and she won't do jack shi* posted up on D-Howard or someone haha. . C'mon. . Really. . . .

Plus. . did you watch the footage? She didn't hit one Jay. . They were either bricks or they only showed her shooting and not where the ball went. . .She's 12 years old and tall. . big deal. .

30 Points a game

The thing about here just being 12 and tall is bull.

because in any league, you can't just be tall and not have any skill to score 30 points. That's just poor thinking. Eddy Curry is like 7 foot, and he only manages for 15 points and 8 hamburgers a night.

wow. are people really this stupid?! I cant believe how many threads are made about a woman being able to play in the NBA. A woman will never be able to play in the nba EVER.

I never said she couldn't thrive as a female basketball player. She has size and SOME skill. . . yes. .

But in terms of her performance right now. . She is 12. . .and 6ft tall. .she is a giant in comparison to her team mates and opponents. She can put it up underneath with no contest - - - - - and get damn near every rebound as well. They showed her playing against these kids and missing it 3 times before getting in. . she just kept getting the boards.

The difference between her and Eddy Curry in terms of height and talent is. . . She is a giant for who she is up against. . Eddy is big and all but fits the mold, more or less, size wise for NBA big men. . .It's not like he's some 9 foot freak playing against men his age who are 6'5 or something.

She is JUST a tall little girl playing against kids who haven't yet hit growth spurts. . . Hell, for all we know she hit her spurts early and is done growing upwards. . .She has no shot. . and most likely no PG skill set. She will never play in the NBA. . .And all things considered. . .I wouldn't yet bet the house on her making it into the WNBA. . .a lot can happen in that time span.
