I agree that the contrast in style would be interesting. At least we could once and for all stop all the "defense > offense" nonsense, since LA would beat Boston imo. The Celts simply can't score enough to hang with the Lakers, and that's ll it would come down to.

I think the Celtics offense would love to go against the Lakers. They don't play defense like Cleveland or Detroit.

Btw why doesn't a piston/spur final get the respect it deserves the last time they met I would say it was the best finals in the post Jordan era.

Because no one watched it, and again no one will.

actually no, I meant no one. Check the ratings.

I was suprised LeBron didn't get better ratings last year. I guess no one really believed he could do it :(

Wow, Serpo, take it easy with the bitter grapes buddy. I know the Nets have had their heyday and you are an expert on the way basketball should be played, but WTF makes your opinion so much more valid than "Boston and LA and the rest of the US". Sounds like you ARE the minority on this one. Real basketball fans ( and people who have actually played basketball and been apart of "meaningless" rivalry games) want Lakers v. Celtics aka an NBA finals featuring the two best teams in the league, who historically dont like each other. I know we haven't had a final like that in awhile, but hey I'm looking forward to it. I don't give two **** if I'm the only person in the world watching that series, I like good competitive basketball and know that will happen if these two juggernauts collide. Thank god Cleveland got eliminated or we would have to hear about why we need to look forward to another LeBron James sponsored snoozefest.

Lebron or not the Cavs suck and are one of the least fun teams to watch because of their awful "offense" . Way more then Spurs or Pistons are the Cavs boring.

Real basketball fans allways watch the finals when they're competive thats not the point . Detroit and SA was a great final and the qoutes weren't that bad . I just don't see why a Celtic vs LA finals would bring so much more viewers the majority of the potential audience is not real basketball fans .
Those casual viewers obviosly don't care much about the NBA anymore .
I can't see how a media hyped rivalry could change that.

Edit: My personal opinion is that the NBA lost viewers because of how the rules changed not because of the teams . Way too many whistles and brakes in the game most of the times .

yeah but casual viewers are where the big bucks are made while "real" fans are the backbone that will probuly watch all of the series for one reason or another.

DET v LA [a repeate of 04'!]

DET v SA [put to rest how close the two confrence dynastys have been]

BOS v SA [KG v Duncan, most people that want to see KG fail :op]

BOS v LA [multiple obvious reasons, have the headlines all year. Then the history on top of it.]

Well i don't know theoretically all the Lebron hype last year should have brought a lot more viewers then it actually did . I don't know about how much that will impact the actuall audience.

Part of me wonders if I'll be able to watch if it's Celtics-Lakers...I'll at least have to have it muted. I just don't think I'll be able to stomach ESPN's crap with that for an entire series, even though it should be great basketball. Many here are right--ESPN will hype the living crap out of that, and yes it is a problem, because it's a complete distraction from the actual game. It will be ESPN at its worst if it does happen.

ESPN sucks, I hate how they constantly try to ram baseball down our throats. no one gives a **** about baseball.

As basketball fan i sympathize with you and i understand your frustration, but can you really blame ESPN and Abc, they lost lots of money due to low ratings now its their chance to get it back, now that big markets back on the map, plus casual NBA fans they love this type of coverage.

the real victims here the true basketball fans.
