From what i remember, the NBAPA has an agreement where the players receive a certain amount (like $0.01) per game sold with their name in it. I think a similar contractual clause existed for basketball cards.

It's obviously a minute amount, negligible at best.

I think Jordan marketed himself b/c he was a brand unto himself, so he didn't sign that part of the NBAPA agreement. This meant, he was contractually obligated to things like salary cap, but wasn't included in marketing ventures, unless he gave the okay; and these included things like video games.
