Bennett To Sonics Players: 'Boo Hoo'

Post#1 » by SportsWorld » Tue May 27, 2008 3:50 am

Wow, are you kidding me?

Seattle Post-Intelligencer -
As part of the deposition for the upcoming trial between the city of Seattle and the Sonics' ownership group over the team's KeyArena lease, it has come to light that Sonics owner Clay Bennett has little sympathy for the players who do not want to leave Seattle, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer is reporting.

In an e-mail to Oklahoma-based public relations consultant Brent Gooden after hearing some of the Sonics players were upset about the prospect of moving the franchise to Oklahoma City, Bennett responded by writing, "Boo hoo," according to a line of questioning by city of Seattle attorney Jeff Johnson.

To which Gooden replied, "Great response. I would play wherever for half of the lowest paid player on the team."

What a classless fool, I don't know how he is an owner of an NBA franchise. If I was KD I would tell him to s*** my d*** and trade me if I'm going to live in red neck OKC for the prime of my life and play for a snake of an owner....

This is what worries me.

If Bennett is convinced he has to sell the team, what are the chances of him completely sabotaging our franchise? Given what has happened, I wouldn't be suprised at all.

I do believe that players need to suck it up and deal with the fact that they are making a ton of money. At the same time, it's a business and Clay is alienating the people he needs to make him successful.

I really hope this son of a bitch gets shut down.

It's disgraceful what he's doing to the city of Seattle.

He's right, it's pretty ridiculous to whine about working conditions when you're making millions.

Boo Hoo?

Does this guy happen to be best friends with Carl Pohlad or Norm Green??

and who is Brent Gooden to criticize the players for DEFENDING SONICS FANS everywhere???? what a prick. I'm merely an outsider but this whole bit outrages me.

Boo hoo? **** that, so what, they can make millions on plenty of other teams where they will be welcomed with open arms, why would they want to work for this jackass?

I can't believe people are actually accusing Sonics players of being 'whiners'. These players are making their feelings known and are being loyal to the city of Seattle and their fans of over 40 years. This is why athletes can't even take a stance on issues because no matter what side they take, they get burned by the public. It's a shame.

The reason why the players are making millions is because of the product THEY put out to the public, so of course they have a right to some say about their working environment. Just because you make a big salary doesn't mean you don't have the right to comment on your job.

Plus, who's whined, anyway? I think the players have been very profession about this crappy situation. I wish they would say more, in fact. If anything, the statement tells you more about how Clay Bennett and the other guy feel about OKC (Can you say, inferiority complex? Can someone buy this guy a red corvette so this giant midlife crisis can go away) and about his employees in general.

I'd say this is why Clay replied with "Boo-hoo." He's just jealous. In his mind, I wouldn't be surprised if he was actually expecting the players to say they are looking forward to playing in OKC.

Maybe now he understands the magnitude of what he's doing...ripping away (steal) something that doesn't rightfully belong to him. Unfortunately, his response shows that he could care less, and that at 50 years+, he still has some growing up to do.

Being from Toronto I can relate this guy to Harold Ballard who owned the Leafs. His only concern was making money and didn't care about the players on the on ice product. It's a shame leagues approve owners like these who don't give a damn about their players/fans but rather just for their own selfish agendas.

perfect, he has alienated the fans, media, and now his own players. remember when the bulls couldn't find anyone to take their millions?
players will remember that little comment. it's one thing to try and get free agents to play in small markets, but if the players think that the owner dosn't give a s**t about you......well, good luck.
what a tool.
Don't act like you're not impressed.

What a moron that guy is.

I think it shows you that he should kiss his father in law's a$$ on a daily basis, because he sure as hell isn't a smart business man and has to consider himself lucky that he was able to marry into all that money of the Gaylord family.

Boo-Hoo Clay....ahahahhaaaaaaaa

I've never been to OKC but I can understand why the players would rather stay in Seattle. Seattle is a great city.
