Second Attempt at a mock - 2 Rounder

Post#1 » by DynastyInTheMaking » Tue May 27, 2008 11:16 pm

A week after the lottery was announced and I posted my first mock, I have come out with a second one. This is much different than my first one and I felt doing 2 rounds would give me a better grasp on the draft going forward. With a few surprises throw in there here it is:

1. Chicago- PG Derrick Rose Memphis. This appears to be the pick, there

2008 SECOND ROUND NBA DRAFT ORDER

31. Minnesota- C Nathan Jawai Australia. Drops to the second but to what could be a good situation.

32. Seattle- PF Ryan Anderson Cal. A Nick Collison clone.

33. Portland- PG Tywon Lawson. They have a plethora of PGs but it is a second round pick. I

No DJ White? I'm pretty sure he'll be drafted because I truly believe he can be a very productive NBA player. I think he may be a steal in the 2nd round, seems like Carl Landry all over again, and maybe better.

While undersized Power Forwards have had success the past few years, I think that White is closer to Wayne Simien than Carl Landry.

You on the other hand, might be just slightly biased.

Awesome mock man. If Hardin is on the Board for the Sonics' first second round pick I think we take him though. The Minnesota pick is hard to figure and I'm sure the fact that you'd be flamed for not giving them Mayo was a consideration.

Yeah Minnesota fans seem to be set on Mayo while there are conflicting reports what the front office wants. While I think Mayo can be a multi-time All Star I dont think Minny is the best landing spot for him. Lopez and maybe even Gallinari would seem to be a better fit.

If Mayo does fall past Minny, I do believe the reports that suggest the Sonics would take Bayless even if Mayo is on the board.

That's a tough call. You have to believe that part of the reason we're building our team how we are is that we want quiet players that won't speak out against a potential move. Bayless is a more likely candidate for that whereas Mayo may actually speak with some force if he decides he likes Seattle.

If Hardin is available when Minny pick in the 2nd round I think they grab him, barring them taking Lopez at 3.Even then I'd still take him he's not perfect next to Al but he is better than anything else we have and he would be good value as a back up if we took Lopez.

This is the second or third mock that's had Greene going to Washington. I can see it a bit, as we like our perimeter-oriented forwards, but I really just don't see it happening. We need to improve our defense at backup, and we need someone who's ready to play relatively quickly (i.e., not a big project). Greene is definitely talented, he's just not the type of player I'd like to see us pick.

What could happen this offseason that would make him see play next year? Is Caron Butler going to die or something?

Pretty solid mock. My only input would be that Kevin Pritchard of the Blazers seems to have a bit of a man crush on Lester Hudson, and probably wouldn't pass on him in the second round

I now its hard to judge foreign players but the two 7 footers playing for Fenebahce - Turkey are legit. Especially Omer Asik. Although his offensive game needs development his defense is quit something. Last time I check he was averageing 4 blocks in Europes sweet sixteen games in 20 minutes. I think that he will go late first round after teams work him out.

-Arenas and Jamison might not be back. It's likely they both will but you never know. I look at Greene as someone who might be forced to play out of position at the 4 like Rashard Lewis or who can allow someone like a Caron Butler to play the 2 and get some good size on the court.

--What does Darko have to do with Kevin Love? A "project" international player isnt really comparable to a NBA ready 1st Team All American PF out of UCLA. That Detroit team had talent in front of Darko, so why would he force someone who wasn't NBA ready into playing?

-I feel to some degree foreign players are slowly falling out of favor in the NBA. I have a handful in the first and a good amount in the second so it's not like they aren't going to be drafted.

I was merely saying Larry Brown does not always take the proven college player or college player in general, hence the example of Darko. Had nothing to do with comparing Darko and Kevin Love
