Better defender, Kenyon or Camby?
On the trade board, I was told that KMart is a better defender than Camby, and that anyone on the Nuggetts board would agree with me? Is there something i'm missing? KMart may not be terrible, but I don't think he's in Camby's league. Thoughts?

Kenyon, and it isn't even close. You'll be hard-pressed to find many that disagree. The only thing Camby is any good at is shot blocking. And that's great when you use it as a last resort, but unfortunately for Camby, blocking shots is the only way he knows how to play defense. When all is said and done, Camby is one of the most overrated defenders in the league.

kenyon martin. quite easily
camby blocks shots, gets rebounds...but lacks everywhere else.
kmart can guard positions 1-5 pretty well (we've seen him guard shaq, and and also stifle chris paul on multiple possessions in crunch time this season), he actually hedges pick and rolls, he can switch pick and rolls effectively, he can guard the post 1v1, he contests shots outside the paint, he has more motivation/consistent energy to play defense, he has perhaps the best hands in the league at stripping the ball down low (on both guards and post players), he's more physical...i could go on.
camby gambles for blocks which leaves the weakside putback open all game, he never hedges picks (meaning guards get open jumpshots every time camby's man sets a pick), he can't switch picks, doesn't come out of the paint to make correct rotations to contest perimeter shots, anyone who has any semblance of a jumphook will score on him easily in the post 1v1.

Thank you very much. I think Camby just gets the perception of being a good defender due to the blocks. On the Bulls, Nocioni is similiar in the fact that everyone thinks he's a good defender when he tries hard and takes charges, despite the fact that he's actually terrible at it.

K-Mart by far, Camby is not a defender at all, he lets smaller guards squeeze by him just to block their shots, he is a risk taker, if a true defender/shot blocker took those risks they would average 5-7 blocks a game. Camby has the gifts of long arms and timing. Ask Camby to cover D howard or Tim Duncan or even chris Kaman or Zach randolph and see how he fares against those guys. K-Mart can guard kobe (as good as one can) and Tim Duncan and is physical enough to control the paint. Camby gets crushed by people his own size
