trade Ginobili?..
I don't know if I would definitely do it, but I'd at least like for the Spurs to look at some possibilities..
I know a lot of you will say that I'm just overreacting after 1 playoffs, but I'm not..I love Ginobili when he's on, I think he's a top 3 SG in the NBA when his game is on..nobody can stop him..but sadly, his game is off just as much as it's on..
I think we should listen to offers for him now..why? because he's coming off a great regular season, and his stock didn't drop in the playoffs because of the "injury"..his value is fairly high right now, and higher than it's ever going to be again IMO..
we're going to have to look younger at some point, and Ginobili would give us the best chance to get something nice in return..even if we're just looking to win now, I think there are other SG/SF's that are more consistent and would give us a better chance to win in these next few years..also add in the fact that we'll be looking to get younger PG's, swingmen and big men, which would definitely help our disgusting offensive droughts, lessening the need for Manu IMO..
I doubt it'll ever happen unless a huge offer comes back in return, but I'd like to see the Spurs at least consider some offers..

I've been debating the idea of putting feelers out on a possible Manu trade, as well. A while back I posted Joe Johnson of the Hawks. That didn't go over too well. I just thought we needed a younger more fluid scorer.
What if we could work out a deal for Melo using Manu and some role player of draft pick? What are your takes on that?

I'll be honest, I've thought about this a bit myself, and would be okay dealing him as long as the return/offer is right.
Carmelo? Couldn't turn that down. There'd be some things with adjusting, but he'd have to and should eventually.
Joe Johnson? That'd be great, I love Joe's game and he's one of my favorites, too.
Andre Iguodala? S/T, ditto with Johnson. Not a "good" shooter, but he has improved his jumpshot, and would continue to this off-season, as well as his offensive game in general. Which is already above-average and diverse, you know this if you've watched a bunch of Philly games over the last year. Iggy not being a top shooter would be significantly helped with our group of shooters compared to Philly's.

I agree that we wouldn't in a 1 on 1 trade..but in a 3-team trade, we definitely could..
the way the NBA is built now, there are teams making big trades to jump into contender status..there's a very legit chance that a good/great team that wants to jump into the elite category would take on a trade for Manu Ginobili..if there is a younger team involved that could get something out of it, I don't see why we couldn't get value..
I'm not expecting Joe Johnson or Anthony..but a younger guy on the brink of "stardom" is more realistic..or a guy that isn't happy with his team..

Most people I'd bet aren't into this, but I would be... Manu for Ron Artest.
Ron isn't necessarily unhappy with the Kings, but with some of his comments they indicate he would prefer to be on a legit playoff/contending team.
Having watched Ron over the last 3-4 seasons with regularity, I've really come to realize the "ball-stopper" stuff said about him is over-blown. Stuff like that has happened at times, but it is not as a trend, as a consistency. Thus the exaggeration. Ron's actually been an underrated, multi-skilled, and pretty consistent play-maker, too. Not quite at the level of Manu, but still above-average, and part of how he can create is out of posting up/on the block. Specifically one of those ways in posting is drawing a double team, which has been a regular occurance.
I think ultimately he'd fit in well, and would really give us a whole new dimension on both ends of the court.
I'd rather sign Ron with the MLE in the case he opts out, but that isn't favoring to happen this summer so far. Things can definitely change, though (as they did from earlier this year).

I think he would fit offensively..he isn't just a defensive player, he has proven he can put up around 18 PPG on a consistent basis..I'd rather have a player that will get my easier points and take higher percentage shots..I'd also rather have a guy that will give me SOMETHING on a consistent basis(defense)..

No, Ron is not quite a natural scorer, neither is Iguodala. But both are versatile in what they can do offensively. Artest especially is a real match-up problem with all that he can do. Both are definitely good offensive players, though.
Joe Johnson and Carmelo obviously fit into the natural scorer mold. Can do other things also, Johnson moreso than Carmelo, though.

I would take Ron Artest also, if I were a GM. Ginobilli would certainly have to be traded to be able to take on that kind of money. Any way you look at it, I love Manu, but he's gonna be 32 and he abuses his body more in a season than any other player in the league. I see him fizzling out before Duncan at this point. I think this off season is the time to start seriously mulling our options with him.

Well, in the case Ron opts out of the final year of his deal, he has said more than once that winning is priority over money. So signing for the MLE is realistic in that case, and he would have to too, in order to go to a legit winner/good team. And if you look at other teams, we would be the overall best spot for him out of the good teams.
But, he has also sided to not opting out, more than once. So it's kind of up in the air.

Ron might've said those words, but willl he feel the same if he were to go to a system where the ball might not be in his hands as much as it is in Sactown? Personally, I'm leaning on no. Remember not too long after Ron was traded to Sactown, he requested that the ball run through him and that he's willing to take the team on his back. From the outside standpoint was it Ron's ego talking or his actual willingness to take the team over his back.

i dont want to trade ginobili. the man is a hall of famer and a proven winner, one bad series will not convince me otherwise. lets not forget hes playing on a bum ankle and does not have his explosion.
besides... theres no way we get equal value for him, NO way.

1. No, actually not might at all, because he did make comments relative to what I said, during this past season. Definitely once, and maybe a second time more recently. If you don't buy my memory, I will supply the material for you.
2. Yes he would, because he wants to win, and ultimately wants to be in the playoffs and win a championship - he would adapt with the Spurs, obviously knowing the situation of the team, and the differences compared to being with the Kings. Coming into a new, better situation, and of course as he would talk and meet with team and staff after he was acquired. And, he would still have a significant role offensively, but obviously not as much with the Kings.
If he would still be asking for a bigger role, then I'd be surprised by that. So either he'd be told how it is on this team and understand, or if it lingers, then he'd be dealt with. To me, the latter situation would be an insignificant concern.
It's simply a matter of difference between team situation. If you don't think he'd realize that, then I don't know what to tell you.
3. He said that stuff during the Kings playoff run in 06 when he first came to the team, he and the team followed through. He was absolutely justified in saying what he said. But I don't remember him talking like that since then, and at least not in the last year. If he did, it didn't cause any issues with the team. Regardless of all that, it doesn't matter because he wouldn't have that mind-set with a team like the Spurs.
