Stromile Swift's player option

Post#1 » by rag-time4 » Mon May 26, 2008 6:38 am

Peace and blessings be unto everyone...

Does anyone know when we'll know what Stromile's going to do this off season? Will he exercise his player option to remain with the Nets for another season or will he decline his option and become a free agent?

I've been trying to follow the New York media but I haven't heard anything.

Peace and blessings!

BRIEF: Forward Stromile Swift, acquired in January from Memphis for Jason Collins, picked up his $6.2 million option for next season. It's the last year of his deal, so Swift could be valuable either in a trade or by coming off the cap next summer.

Thanks for the article!

Stromile could also be valuable as a player if the Nets actually play him this season.

The only value this writer gives him is as an expiring contract.

I would agree but I would put a asterisk for last season cause Lfrank didnt know what he is doing. At training camp maybe he can have clear role.

I don't think he'll play a role next year with the Nets other then playing in garbage time and if somebody is hurt . We most likely pick another young big , Boone and Sean will be there as well and Krstic most likely will return too . Diop should be gone but i just don't see the place Swift .

He's not that good .

He's either a bench warmer next year or is already traded on draft day.

If you substitute the Jam in place of the Nets, you maybe onto something.

Moot point and all, but he would've never declined his option.

Team can trade him as an expiring whether they play him or not. With all the young bigs the Nets have, Swift should get used to the latter.

The guy is useful as another body or an expiring so i don't understand why Swift generates all of this hate from us Net fans.

I'd rather have him around as an athletic 4 off of the bench whose contract can be moved in a deal to make us better than have Twin here being force fed into the starting line up by that moron Opie and sucking the life out of our cap.

And i like Twin, really

I know we have our share of VC lovers on this board. I can understand why, but a Swift lover I just dont get it.

Question for you Rag Time.

Twins role was already reduced and he knew his role and what he can do or can't . And he was a great locker room guy everybody loved Twin on the team.

Swift is just a great athelete with questionable work ethic . He can't do anything our young guys can't and surely doesn't look he'd enjoy not playing at all. ( Which is i would do because i draft another young big and resign Nenad , Swif would be 5th big and i don't see he will accept it .

Yeah, i never said the guy was a good player, I just like the fact that he's A)an athletic big that can be plugged in in case someone gets hurt and B)an expiring which can get us someone else in here that can make this team better.

Twin was the man but way overpaid and was a shell of his former self this season, and in twin terms thats pretty f'n bad bro

Of course he was bad but his BB-IQ and his great locker room attitude and his experience make him im my eye more valueable then Swift .

Both are terrible basketball players but one at last has been a decent on before injuries took their toll.

For 5-10 minutes of the bench and his great attidude i'll allways prefer Twin .

And why the hell didn't he become a better basketball player ? He just hasn't developed very much since he came out of college .

How did he become a great athlete without having a strong work ethic?

He has gotten better. He's much more composed emotionally. He's worked on his post up game. He's worked on his jumpshot. His freethrows show an upward trend, though you can see that he shoots them better when he's in a good situation team-wise as opposed to a situation in which he is unhappy.

I don't think his lack of playing time has anything to do with his skills or his lack thereof. I think what has happened is that Stromile wants the opportunity to create and be a versatile player, but his coaches have tried to limit him and confine him to a role that I think Stromile sees as beneath him and degrading.

So ... how did he become such a great athlete if his work ethic is questionable?

^ Ha, you have switched over to the Nets board!

Anyway, I think that the Nets got Stro a little late. They could have used his athletic presence with a Jason Kidd. That is really the only situation under which I can see him thriving.

Return to Brooklyn Nets
