NYknicksfan11 2007/2008 Mock Draft
Here is a Mock Draft i came up with for the first round. I think its pretty realistic IMO and i tried to go with what some teams might of needed or BPA in some cases. Some of you may disagree where i have some players...But o well..its my Mock Draft
Also...I watch alot of College Basketball and i have seen alot of these guys play...so i have my own opinions on them...I tried to make the Comparisons original...and not use the ones on other draft sites...some comparisons i made are the same...just because i agree
1. Chicago Bulls - Michael Beasley,PF/SF, Kansas St. Comparison [Amare Stoudamire with more range] Really....Beasley or Rose can go #1...its a tossup now...i acually think rose will go #1 but i think Beasley is the better fit and the BPA
2. Miami Heat - Derrick Rose, PG, Memphis - Comparison [Stephon Marbury meets Jason Kidd]
3. Minnesota Timberwolves - O.J. Mayo, Sg/PG, USC - Comparison [Chauncy Billups]
4. Seattle Supersonics - Jerryd Bayless, PG/SG, Arizona - Comparison [Nate Robinson with height]
5. Memphis Grizzlies - Brook Lopez, C, Stanford - Comparison [Pau Gasol]
6. New York Knicks - Danilo Galinari, SF, Italy - Comparison [Better shooting Lamar Odom with lesser of ball handling/Hedu Turkalu]
7. LA Clippers - Eric Gordan, SG, Indiana - Comparison [ Ben Gordan]
8. Milwaukee Bucks - Anthoney Randolph, SF/PF, LSU - Comparison [Havn't seen much of him TBH...NBAdraft says Odom...]
9. Charlotte Bobcats - Kevin Love, PF, UCLA - Comparison [Better passing version of Zach Randolph without the baggage]
10. New Jersey Nets - Deandre Jordan, C, Texas A&M - Comparison [Poor mans Dwight Howard...High Risk/High Payoff type player...I'm calling bust]
11. Indiana Pacers - D.J. Augestin, PG, Texas - Comparison [Jayson Williams with better decision making]
12. Sacremento Kings - Joe Alexander, SF, West Virginia - Comparison [J.R. Smith without the Baggage] (This guy has the ability to be the best player in this draft....With some work...He could be dominant in this league...sleeper)
13. Portland Trailblazers - Russel Westbrook, PG/SG, UCLA - Comparison [Rich mans Rajon Rondo] I could see him and Augestin switching spots
14. Golden State Warriors - Javale McGee, C/PF, Nevada - Comparison [Marcus Camby] Not now...still very Raw...not a great defender now..but can be great... 7'0 with a 7'6 wingspan...athletic as hell..but very very raw. Would fit their system perfectly. Could be the steal of the draft.
15. Phonix Suns - Donte Greene, SF, Syracuse - Comparison [Rashard Lewis] Very athletic, good shooter, would fit well in their system (if they run the same system that is without D Toni)
16. Philly 76ers - Darrel Arthur, PF, Kansas - Comparison [Poor Mans Chris Bosh]
17 .Toronto Raptors - Nicolas Batum, SF/SG, France - Comparison [ Rudy Gay] i know nothing about him...thats what he is compared to on nbadraft.net, so thats what i'll go with on this one..
18 .Washington Wizards - Kostas Koufos, C, Ohio State - Comparison [Vladamir Radmanavich/Mehmet Okur]
19. Cleveland Cavaliers - Chris Douglas Roberts, SG/SF, Memphis - Comparison [Poor mans Tayshaun Prince] (Lesser of a defender) Cavs need a guy who can create their own shot and score for themselves...CDR can do that...Is an average defender but will probably get better, plus...The cavs need a SG..Perfect fit IMO
20. Denver Nuggets - Mareise Speights, PF/C, Florida - Comparison [Al Harrington with less range]
21. New Jersey Nets - Chase Budinger, SG, Arizona - Comparison [Grant Hill]
22. Orlando Magic - Roy Hibbert, C, Georgetown - Comparison [ Erick Dampier] It was obvious during the playoffs, that the Magic were lacking serious depth at the Center position...Although it was because of injurys, i say Magic Draft another bigman to play behind Howard...Or maybe even start next to him
23. Utah Jazz - Robin Lopez, C/PF, Stanford - Comparison [Andries Biedrens] They could really use a Defensive bigman
24. Seattle Supersonics - Serge Ibaka, PF, Congo - Comparison [Tyrus Thomas]
25. Houston Rockets - Mario Chalmers, PG, Kansas - Comparison [Rafer Alston]
26. San Antonio Spurs [b]- Brandon Rush, SG, Kansas - Comparison [Raja Bell]
27.New Orleans Hornets - Davon Jefferson, SF, USC - Comparison [Richard Jefferson?] Seen him play quite a few times...has talent and alot of potential...i couldnt really think of a good comparison..Jefferson seems like a pretty good comparison i guess.
28. Memphis Grizzlies - JJ Hickson, PF, NC State - Comparison [Chris Wilcox]
29. Detroit Pistons - Joey Dorsey, PF/C, Memphis - Comparison [Ben Wallace]
30. Boston Celtics - Ty Lawson, PG, UNC - Comparison [T.J Ford]
That is my Pre Workout mock draft...It took me alot of time to put this together....i would apreciate some possible feedback maybe. I would of added some feedback on the players, except i'm tired and i really don't feel its necesarry, the only ones i commented on..are the guys i felt i had to defend either the positions they are taken in...or their comparison i gave them.
I tried to make it realistic and not biased. I want Mayo to drop #6 to the Knicks...but realistically i don't see it happining. Galinari has alot of hype around the knicks boards, and from what i have been reading, i think he can be a very solid player...But like i said...this is a "pre draft workout mock draft" alot can change once some players start working out with teams.
Also...not sure how many...but a few comparisons may be the same from differnt sites...I posted which ones were the ones i stole...There are a few which i agreed with so technically its those would be my comparisons i guess..I dunno..lol..Just trying to say i wasn't trying to take shortcuts.

Again. Why would the Cavaliers not look to address their frontcourt?
The strength of their rebounding and defensive philosophy is the frontcourt who by next season will be 34,33 and 33 with Varejao likely opting out next summer.
If the Cavaliers frontcourt falls off the table so will the team LeBron James or not and Chris Douglas-Roberts isnt going to change that.

Good Mock. I really enjoyed the analysis and wish more mocks gave the insight you do. Hibbert to the Magic made me gag. I see the need, but man I don't like it. You dissed my personal choice for the Magic, Chase Budinger, and I think he would make a better pick. Why did he drop out of the 1st round?

Warriors are a playoff team picking in the Lottery.
Why not pick a project player? McGee has tons of potential and is an athletic freak of nature...
I know mixtapes usually dont mean a thing...but figured id post these in case u havnt seen him...he is great at running the floor and finishing...long arms so he can block shots which turn into fast breaks...and has an average shot.

Highly suggest you watch those...so you can see where his potential lies. He could be a great player, especialy in a run and gun system.

I dunno, you know your team better then i would...But i've seen the Warriors play quite a few times...and IMO he would fit their great...just because of his athleticism and the way he is able to get up and down the court and finish.(Like i said..thats just my opinion..you would know more then me because its your team)
He is a good rebounder and blocker as well..His man to man defense is pretty bad, and maybe has a bad case of shot selection...but thats cuz he was the star of his team.
I think he would flurish witht he Warriors...I wouldnt mind him going to the knicks TBH...but not at 6...would love to get another mid draft pick and take a chance on this guy...

JaVale McGee is the next Patrick O'Bryant. We don't want him. We need a more NBA-ready PF who can rebound and play solid defense from day 1. Some candidates: Kevin Love (if we get REALLY lucky), Marreese Speights, Darrell Arthur.
