Yeah it seems legit... Splitter doesn't want to be under the rookie pay scale. Arg...

Adding Artest isn't some magical bandaid that would have secured our place as repeat champs.

adding Artest would have been huge though, and IMO, would have made us favorites..it would have shortened the other series too..

Artest could have defended Diaw and West better than anybody on our team did..Artest could switch on to Kobe instead of Udoka doing it, which could have prevented Kobe's blowup in game 1, and surely made everything harder for him..

more importantly, Artest can put up good scoring outputs..

there's no way a team with Duncan, Parker, Ginobili AND Ron Artest was going to go through the same offensive droughts we go through now..Ron is a mismatch against most PF's in the NBA too..

I honestly don't see how he wouldn't have fixed everything..not to mention he's a tough rebounder and tough in general..he would pretty much be a perfect fit for this team IMO..

That is quite unfortunate about Splitter....

I think with that being the probability now, it increases our need to go after Diop. Regardless of what's been said about him going to back to Dallas or NJ, he's a free-agent, and we have a decent shot at getting him.

May even have to go after Kwame.

Or, try and get Emeka Okafor somehow. :)

Oberto/Thomas?/Mahinmi/Bonner... going to need somebody else in there who has some NBA experience, but younger.

-----------

Totally agreed, HH37. Ron's not really a ball-stopper, either, especially wouldn't be in the Spurs system, and his role would be smaller offensively.

Our size at PF/C wouldn't be as good, but I think what Ron would bring on both ends would make up for it. He's a beast of diversity on both sides of the court.

I'm amazed at the number of Piston fans who wanted to trade for Artest too. :dontknow:

Tough break on Splitter. He was actually the guy I wanted Detroit to draft 1 spot ahead of you, but we wound up taking Aaron Afflalo. Looks like Dumars has once again proven to be a smarter man than I.

Still, I know it's no immediate consolation, but Splitter could very well still wind up over here eventually. It just may take a while.

This has to be the last straw for taking on future projects for the Spurs, this is two now that have backfired on us, first Scola now Splitter. We need to draft an immediate option this year. I'm sick of having to wait and see if our picks turn out. Our team isn't getting any younger we need fresh legs.

Wait and see. This is a spanish paper, and if you follow football (soccer to americans) all kinds of speculative garbage shows up in papers like Marca when transfer season is on... The article doesn't say Splitter has signed anything...

I swear, I'm fast growing tired of overseas picks. Our last quality draft pick was Tony Parker in 2001.

Udrih was a good pick, just didn't mesh in San Antone for some reason

I really hope Splitter changes his mind and comes to San Antonio in the upcoming season. The Spurs need a couple of fresh bodies at the frontcourt position. And with Duncan being a mentor to Splitter, he could turn into an even better player for the Spurs future.

That's what I meant. The last good pick that actually made even the slightest difference for us. Barbosa was also a decent pick, but he never donned a San Antonio jersey.

this week was supposed to be a great week, after 3 weeks of non stop biochem labs, midterms, projects, this week was finally the week for me to relax. but this week, has proven to be the worst week.

No more chances, Splitter already agreed for 2 year contract with Tao, unfortunuly for us, Tau offred to him a contract 8 times better then San Antonio did, something like 7/8 millions, that

Makes sense. He took Scola's place in Tau. He takes Scola's place in the same old song and dance for the Spurs. The can spot talent overseas, but looks like we don't have the people to close the deal with these guys.

Then again, I mean, 7/8M per yr? Geez, if he's getting that, how can we compete? Who pays a young guy still trying to prove himself that much in the NBA?

at least his contract is short term

unlike scola who signed a 10yr contract with a huge buyout

you cant, thanks to the nba rookie pay scale. the max we could pay tiago was about 1 mil next season, and thats before taxes. the money hes getting from tau is all after tax, plus the team pays for his housing and transportation. nba teams cant compete.

his contract was basically 10m/2yrs after tax

hopefully his contract buyout is still 500k....then that will be fine..

but i really wanted him over next season, not 2 years later....

looks like ian and sanikidze (hopefully) gets brought onto the roster.
