Post#1 » by SportsFan215 » Thu May 29, 2008 1:24 am

Would you guys do a JJ for #3 (Mayo) + fillers swap?

OJ Mayo is one of the last players I'd want to see join this team. Especially at the expense of Joe.

You MIGHT be able to get Marvin for OJ but there is NO way you could get JJ for OJ.

Why wouldn't you want to see Mayo on the Hawks? He has no real weaknesses on the court and has a great work ethic. I wouldn't trade Joe for him but Mayo is probably going to be just as good as Brandon Roy.

You are joking right!? Please don't tell me you actually think the Hawks would turn down the #3 pick for Marvin. Dear god I can't believe someone actually wrote this.

I'm REALLY unimpressed by this draft. I could be wrong, but I'd just as soon have a mid-1st to go after CDR than gamble on Mayo, Bayless, & Co.

It's not that I think we would turn down the #3 pick for Marvin. It all depends on our coach and Sund believing that Joe can play the 3. I'm all for having OJ Mayo on this team because he can be the next Kobe if he keeps his head on straight.

OJ Mayo- I have the feeling that this kid could turn out to be the best player in the league someday, but how could we take such a risk. This guy could be Dwayne Wagner, Darius Miles. Or Kobe Bryant, Lebron James.

Not knocking O.J but that would almost be as bad as trading Nique for Danny Manning, setting us back another 2 or 3 years possibly.

I am unimpressed with this draft AFTER the 1st 4 picks. I think Mayo and Bayless are going to be really good. I think the other picks after that(Gordon/Jordan/Randolph/Love)could all end up flopping though.

seems like a fair trade, especially if the filler is a serviceable 7 footer or PG. but the Hawks will be taking a step back and will probably not make the playoffs. Mayo will still need 2 years to become the impact player the Hawks need to take them into the playoffs.

We did all that rebuilding stuff a few years ago. No need to do this trade, although from a pure value standpoint you could definetly make an argument that it is equal.

Harry we traded 3 firsts to get JJ, and he is worth it. You're way off.

I'd rather stick with the theory that Joe Johnson can evolve into a stud. I do like OJ Mayo, but not at the cost of Joe.

I would give up Marvin in a heartbeat to get OJ Mayo, but no way is Marvin's value that high (to get a top 5 pick) because his rookie deal is ending.

I think people are selling this draft short. Is is weak on star players, but I see a lot of players who will be able to stick in the league and contribute in this draft. The key is identifying who the good deals are and who the busts will be. As such that means it is a high risk draft.

I don't see that Joe would have any problem playing the 3. He's done it before in some lineups. Not sure how much it would take away from his game though. It may some, but because of his strength so teams already put their SF on him defensively.

I look at Mayo and see a more physically gifted Jamal Crawford. I doubt he's ever as good as Joe.

I agree with High5. I do not think Mayo would be even a perenial star in this league. He's got some talent, but the hype around this guy was just crazy a few years ago and now people seem to realize he's got a lot to work on. There's no way I'd trade JJ for him, I don't even think I'd trade this years number 1 pick for him, though I think Beasley will be a great player in the NBA.

Roy Hibbert is a taller version of Shelden Williams. He might be the most unathletic basketball player to get drafted since Shawn Bradley.
