Doug Collins to be named Bulls head coach

As a bulls fan, I am neither thrilled nor disappointed.

I think it has zero impact on the pick... Most bulls fans feel like Doug isn't coming to develop a young team, so we're kind of expecting some real trade action now.

I've always been a fan of Collins. He flat-out knows the game of basketball. He's a player's coach, too, so that should be a big change for the Bulls, and I expect their players to respond well to Doug.

Good hire, though I'll be sad to see him leave TNT.

Recently, Collins said he didn't want to leave his broadcasting job with TNT. Since then, the Bulls landed the No. 1 draft pick.
"I know Doug's got the itch [to coach again]," a league source said. "I think the Bulls' youth intrigues Doug more than the Phoenix [Suns] situation. He's a teacher That's what he likes to do.

"He might have been leery about the veterans on the Suns, including Shaq.

Hrm, well bulls posters here have been wrong before

Collins was contacted bu Pax when Skiles was "fired" (in reality, skiles quit, but they didn't spin it that way), but Collins wasn't interested in coaching. So maybe the pick is what changed his mind.

In the past, he was known to be firey and hard on players, but he seems more mellow these days.

I'm thrilled. Second only to Phil Jackson coming back this is the best move they could make coaching wise. My expectations for this team the way it's currently constructed are mediocre, but I think Collins will be a great teacher for the young guys and push the ones that stay in the right direction. If we can manage to overhaul our roster a bit and get a guy like Elton Brand watch out.

As a Bulls fan, I am really excited. I don't think he will be hired for 4 years or something but like 2 to 3 years at most and Bulls will probably hire assistants like Pippen and others that will fit the style.

I think Doug will teach not only the players but also the assistant (Pippen) so once he leaves, Pippen can take over. Pure speculation on my part.

But I would be thrilled.

To add to what I said above:

How can you not like him? He has a great basketball mind and has seen lot of changes and when he talks about the game, he is spot on most of the time.

Also, whenever he is calling Bulls games, he has been right on what the problems Bulls have and how it could be fixed. I am really thinking, he knows that Bulls are not that far off and now with that #1 pick, they can get over the hump by consolidating the talent and bring in a player that would fit with Rose and build the team from there.

I think a lot of changes are coming to the Bulls lineup as well.
