Heat Worried Wade Will Bolt To Knicks?
May 28, 2008 - 4:44 pm
The Miami Herald -
Some within the Heat organization are worried that Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni will try to integrate himself to Dwyane Wade, and LeBron James, as an assistant on the U.S. Olympic team this summer, according to The Miami Herald.

New York general manager Donnie Walsh has made it known that he would like to clear up cap space for the summer of 2010, during which players like Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh will all become free agents. [READ]

Makes about as much sense as LeBron to New York considering Wade wasn't born in Miami, and LeBron was born in a short drive from Cleveland.

If either player are serious about winning, NY isn't the ideal destination in the near future. How they'll be in 2010, not cap space, but the players on the team/surround a Wade or a LeBron is what needs to be the question.

The Heat & Cavs are doing everything in their power to surround their franchise players with the right pieces to contend for years to come.

How the Knicks are going to be able to do that, is beyond me....

lol, he must fulfill the prophecy...

Seriously, I doubt it happens, just because 'Dan Tony' is his Olympics assistant coach, he will want to go to NY?

Wade only signed the shorter deal to make more money in his next contract because of the new CBA.
Dwight Howard on his FT struggles:

"I just think everybody needs to stop talking about it," Howard said. "There's more to life than free throws."

Haha, the last place Riley will let Wade go is New York.

Here are the facts:

* D-Wade has won a championship and said he trusts Riley to rebuild to a winner.
* D-Wade has achieved high marketing status regardless of lesser market and lesser brands (Converse vs Nike, T-Mobile, etc.).
* D-Wade loves the party scene in South Beach where he is the king.
* D-Wade with one more ring may overtake Dan Marino as most beloved South Florida athlete. He already has achieved greatest post season performance by South Florida pro athlete in championships, even more than Czonka, Livan, Pudge, Beckett, etc.
* D-Wade's pending divorce may have him looking to Chicago more than either Miami or NY to be near his kids and have his boys see him play, but they may be unable/uninclined, especially if they choose Rose.
* We can offer him much more money than either team.

Meanwhile...
* Lebron hasn't been able to win in Cleveland despite seeming to almost be able to do it by himself.
* Management tries, but ultimately makes shortsighted decisions, hurting the team's longterm plan... if there is one.
* He is the most marketable player in the league and could eclipse Jordan if in a top 3 market.
* He can handle the pressure of NY media... and he knows it.

But here is the # 1 reason why DWade likely wouldn;t go to NY...

NY will go HARD for Lebron first. DWade will not play second fiddle. It is very unlikely they can get assets enough or below the cap to try to get 2 key FAs in one blow like Orlando tried with Duncan and Hill, making them feel equals in the process. They will wait out Lebron and Riley meanwhile will have made his case fully.

Other then the fact that Wade's free agency is 2 summers away..this whole topic is stupid. What ties does Wade have to NY? Why is it NY is aiming for cap space that people assume they will land Labron and/or Wade? Newsflash, the Heat have the same game plane and Riley has shown time and time again he can manage the cap with the best of them. Just like he did in 96, and just like he did in 03.

Just blows my mind every year when there are big free agents how they are "locks" for the Knicks, just like when Webber was going there, and Brian Grant..etc. Even players under contract somehow end up in NY, Ron Artest..it cracks me up..

Let Mike D last 2 years before we start worrying about him "reqruiting" Wade..lol. In today's NBA, most coaches life span is about the long.

Everyone acts like Wade has been stuck on a losing team for years, my GOD! We had one horrible year, other then that 4 playoff seaons out of 5, 3 division titles, a conference championshiop, an NBA championship and a Finals MVP. Players who have a full career should be so lucky.

And not to forget, by 2010, to go along with the insane cap space we will have, we will already have Wade and either Beasly or Rose to go along with I dont know, a guy name LaBron.. and not to mention other players we bring in during that time..

The Knicks dont even have ONE peice to build around now. We already have Wade and Beasly/Rose

Knicks only covet players like Marbury, Francis, Randolph, and Curry.

Knicks will only want Wade if he turns into a headcase and they are allowed to sign Wade to at least 90% of their annual salary cap.

Wade isn't going to the Knicks. It's a little silly to think that.

We used him hard for a couple years.. but he's had a basic whole good year off. Literally taking half of a season off. How many superstars get rest time like that! He's got a good 3 more years now before another break :-) You guys can't have him. If you had any chance of getting him, you would jump at it in a heart beat. NY needs a SuperStar. Not Starbury.
