Baron Interview on KNBR
Not sure if you guys caught it yesterday on KNBR on the Fitz and Brooks show. For those who did not, they've archived it on their page.

I was wondering how that would fit in. If the Warriors are such a well oiled, Goebbels'esq PR machine, why would they be setting up puff pieces for a guy they are about to a guy they are about to unceremoniously dump for casual-fan unfriendly chaff? Wouldn't the be better served to just keep him and his level headed complimentary, team spirited "front" out of the public eye to minimize the box office damage when they trade him for cap freindly scrubbage that no one who wants to pay to watch play basketball?
I mean, a home turf marketing piece posing as an "interview" with the local boracast pimps isn't going to fool any front office people, so who's the market for this ad?

You'd be surprised how much attention he and his agent's recent BS have directed toward the Warriors' offices.
Not sure how Bob Fitzgerald's staged commentary says anything other than "damage control," buy tickets and merchandize. Fitz's talkpoints were 100% money and recent media BS-related.
Non-issue, business as usual.

Bob Fitzgerald wanted him on the show, because it's Bob's show. plain and simple.
anyone who listens to Bob doesn't listen for any new tidbits. He gets Warriors because he's the Warriors announcer.
It's interesting to hear Baron spin, but there's never any hint of new news here.

More like season ticket holders and marketing partners wondering what's going on. They may not always respond to season ticket holder communications but they certainly listen to a lot of messages and read a lot of emails/letters.
As for the marketing partners, I only know one personally and the question I'm told they asked was not so much, Is Baron still a Warrior? as, Will Biedrins and Ellis be signed longterm or are Baron Davis' contract demands and the team's revised financial strategy the last two-three years going to get in the way of retaining one or both of them this offseason?
No clue how much noise was being made but, true to form, the Warriors are getting their private propaganda machine (KNBR) rolling for the offseason in no doubt totally coincidental and unrelated line with Baron and Ramasar's brief experiments with contractual strong-arming.
Sort of an annual exercise.
Nelson's interview will be next if he can't get the $7+ million multi-year from Phoenix in the next two weeks.
Mylie, you're way off on Bob Fitzgerald and "his" show.
He is very much a Warriors employee first and foremost.

There's a contradiction in your series of posts on Baron's status and the W's skillful use of the media to manipulate fans in their favor. Polishing Baron Davis's image at this juncture does not help them to secure future season ticket sales when he gets "inexplicablly" deal for Sczerbs and Damon Jones.
They marketing interst would better be served by blacking him out until he's dealt, and letting Ramsmoron continue to shove his foot in his mouth painting Baron into the role of the incorrigible again.

Until Don Nelson is secured, there is no move for the Warriors to make. Baron has no interest around the league on an extension and he as much as admitted that the Warriors were not negotiating one with him now. So the Warriors should say nothing about his negotiations and should do what they had Fitzgerald do: talk about charity work, the sexy stats, and how close the Warriors are to the Hornets and what a great top-5 point guard Baron Davis is. He didn't ask a single tough question about what Baron's camp thought it was doing in the media and he put his softballs on a nice T for Baron to say what he needs to right now: I like the Bay Area and the Warriors have been my best place lately.
The best he can get is his one year deal. He's an expiring contract. He's not coming back. If you'll recall the Jason Richardson lines Mullin was spinning last year, this will make sense. The Warriors play all angles once the blood is in the media water. Quieting some local Baron Davis noise now distracts form the fact that he is absolutely liquid as soon as he is on the official final year of his deal. The smart backers know what it is. The day-to-day fans can worry about who the Warriors may draft, what's up with Nelson, and the league championships while eating some more of Bob Fitzgerald's well-placed cookies.
He's a good employee. Solid Press Secretary.

Fitz is good at what he does on KNBR and elsewhere - don't get me wrong on that. But he has a very structured relationship with the Warriors.
There is information he is responsible for disseminating and, on the other hand, inclined to avoiding shining too much light on. I think most understand this to be the case.

You seemed to be claiming that the Warriors had no role in setting up Fitz and Baron to "chat" over a few staged talkpoints and that Bob got Baron to come on the show of his own accord with no team intermediary or, more accurately, outright instruction from team officials to do an arranged interview.
I called you on it.
The rest was fine.

No need to call me on it, because it's a given that the ties between Bob and the Warriors are there in every instance regarding the Warriors.
But if Bob is coming up in twenty minutes, he's gonna say, "Coming up on the Fitz and Brooks show...Baron Davis.blah blah blah"
He's not gonna say something like, "Coming up on the Warriors pr machine...Baron Davis"
