If the scorer's table accidently fouls a guy out...
The player accidently fouled out plays for the worst team in basketball...
It's a meaningless early season game...
That player is subsequently traded away...
...the NBA can admit their mistake and order a replay of the final 30 seconds of the game
BUT if it's the Western Conference Finals...
The most important momentum swinging game in the entire series, basically deciding the fate of the Spurs dynasty...
The game WILL NOT be restarted and Brent Barry WILL NOT get the right to shoot 2 free throws which would potentially send the game to OT.
The NBA is a mess.

That was a mistake on with the forum that the game is played in when the player was mistakenly fouled out.
The call or no call is apart of the judgement and human element of the refs. And as such there are going to be mistakes so every mistake can't be replayed and it just chalked up to human error.

Here's how I see it:
We all know that the NBA calls the game differently the last minute of the game -- it's been going on for years. Yet, the NBA denies it and says that they call the game the same no matter what minute/quarter the call is made.
Enter the excessive media discussion about that final play and how the refs just "let them play" and didn't call it. Naturally the NBA is going to admit their mistake because, of course, they "call the game the same", hence this should have been a foul. It's a back-door method to save face on their long-held statement, which we all no is absurd. That's all.

This is why I so thoroughly enjoyed the olympics. Refs who were consistent in calling the rules as they were written with no "star treatment" "special end of game rules" or any of the other nonsense you have in the NBA. Just a straight out fair game.
[quote:545636310b="Darth Celtic"]man, these refs need to stop giving us the benefit of the doubt and start screwing us.[/quote]

Duncan had the most obvious travel I've ever seen in my life in the first quarter.
Derek Fisher's shot hit the rim which should have reset the shotclock and Kobe wouldn't have had to shoot that fadaway shot with 2 secs on the clock.
Barry traveled before getting fouled.
Should we go back and replay everything because of a missed call or a bad call? We'd have to replay every game.

Now, take off those Laker glasses and look at the situation from a non-biased POV. Those calls were JUDGMENT calls. Duncan was close to a travel, but it was in transition so the refs might not have been set up to see it. Fish's shot only under slo-mo could you see it hit the rim (if it even did).
Unlike those two plays though, the last play off the game came off an inbounds play out of a timeout. All three refs were down at that end and setup to call the last play. They watched, and as millions of others saw as well, a blatant foul committed by Fish in the waning moments. It was not a judgment call nor were the refs out of position to see the play. They simply ate their whistles, and handed the game over.

I agree with your points.
