are u talking about a bit above average starter? pf?
your whole average player angle is really crazy. lamar odom would be a top 5 player on virtually every single team in the league. how is that average? u realize rosters include 14-15 players right?

Doesn't have much skill? Are we talking about the same player here? The Lamar Odom I'm speaking of is one of the more skilled forwards in the league. His problem is that he's often to passive, and needs to be coaxed into asserting himself. But talent or skill has never been a question with him.om3gaboost wrote:I had a intense conversation with a friend about it the other day...and wanted to see what other people thought about it.
I say he is a bit above average, but not that much. He is inconsistent and doesn't have much skill. What gives him an edge is his size..i would say.

Above average basketball player? Yes, he is better than about a billion players.
Above average professional basketball player? Yes, he is in the top league in the world
Above average NBA player? Yes, he is 3rd best out of 15 on an above average team.
Above average NBA starter? Very likely, there are 145 starters in the league, and he is probably around #50

Yes Lamar Odom is an above average player, he is a big mis match for teams. He is just a bigger version of Shawn Marion that scores less points, grabs the same amount of rebounds, plays similar defense, and has great play making skills.

It's funny i was just talking about this with a friend and we agreed that the Lakers wouldn't be near where they are right now without him.
Don't forget that Pau only played part of the season with the Lakers, the other part of the season it was all Kobe/Lamar. He was Kobe's sidekick before Pau came and you'd be hard pressed to find a team that has a better 3rd best player then Lamar.

And with the exception of a couple playoff games, he's actually been very consistent after the Gasol trade.
