Sasha's price tag this off-season

Post#1 » by dockingsched » Fri May 30, 2008 6:25 am

with sasha showing that he's a good, sometimes very good, defender and with his deadly shot, what is sasha's price tag going to be this offseason?

am i too far off in thinking he's reaching full mle territory? if players like tim thomas, vladrad, kapono can get the full mle, what are the chances some other team doesn't throw the full mle for 5 yrs to a 23 yr old sharpshooting defensive menace?

Could happen but doubt it. It would be a little less. And Ronny...

It's important for us to win the championship so these 2 guys will want to come back for less money.

Damn Luke and Radman! :banghead:

I agree.
He is probably worth that by todays standards.
He is young.
He can play D.
He can shoot, although he needs to be more consistent.

I say let's keep him.

Full MLE.

Who'd you rather have, Kapono, Korver, or Vujacic?

I'd take Vujacic in a heartbeat.

1. he's the only guy who actually plays defense.
2. starter potential. Kapono and Korver are destined to be bench players, but Vujacic's ability to play both ways and signs of an expanding offensive game suggest starter potential.
3. work ethic. You can't teach it, and clearly he has it.
4. moxie. He's a competitor.

The guy just makes a significant impact on many games.

Think of how many shooting guards can shoot on an elite level and yet play defense? There's not many.

Now think how many teams could use such a player? A lot.

I would be absolutely shocked if Sasha didn't get the full MLE. Not only is he getting famous around the league for his game and attitude, but the fact that he's playing a substantial role on a team that's going to play in the Finals is going to raise his stock considerably.

Remember how San Antonio signed Horry? I wouldn't be surprised if they push for Vujacic. Barry and Finley are getting old. So is Bowen. Sasha would be a pretty damn good fit.

All good points.
I'd take sasha over those guys too.
Full MLE is not out of the realm for him. I mean Radman got the full MLE.

He had definitely reached full MLE territory, that's about what we are expecting for Gibson on the Cavs. maybe a bit lower, and Sasha has more worth right now.

I prolly wouldnt give him the full MLE but if he is willing to take 3mil per year then it is a win-win. He defiently deserve the full MLE but if we can get him down to 3 then thats cool. Also what about Trev?

for Sasha,

20 million over 5 years. If he keeps playing well, we'll re-sign him with bigger money after those 5 years then.

for Ronny,

23 million over 5 years. I think he would take that to play for LA, a place he surely loves.

for Ariza,

i believe he has a player option which he probably used (for 3.1 million or so) for the upcoming season. we'll see how next season fares for him.

The Knicks would love him with D Antoni's offense. They need a shooter.

I would give him up to 6 years 36 million if I had to. I would try to unload Luke or Radman if that is what it would take to keep him. Farmar and Fisher are sufficent at the pg spot and Sasha at the 3 and Ariza backing them up is perfect. Sasha should be our starting sf. He is like a poor mans Peja but with D.

An interesting tidbit regarding Sasha in a column about the Spurs' upcoming makeover:

The Spurs have had previous interest in Toronto
