The way to get to the finals next year.

Post#1 » by GabbaGoo » Fri May 30, 2008 9:52 am

I am a Bulls fan...so It might come off odd that I was thinking of getting the Spurs back to the Finals

I see you guys have lots of unrestricted contracts which is great...lots of cap space, so here what I would do.

K. Thomas, B. Barry, M. Finley, R. Horry and J. Vaughn all combine to about 22 mill. Drop Them all and let them retire.

Why?

Thre is so much help in free agency for the Spurs, names like Mickael Pietrus, DeSagana Diop, Bostjan Nachbar and Carlos Arroyo. Easily could sign them all.

You look into the draft...might pick up a three point shooter or just a flat out scorer in Courtney Lee of W. Kentucky

Oberto/Diop
Duncan
Pietrus/Nachbar
Ginobli/Lee/Bowen
Parker/Arroyo

Guy's that can make it from the outside and slash...Welcome back to the Finals.

Carlos Arroyo equals a return trip to the Finals? Eck. I'd prefer Duhon personally.

this probably belongs in the official offseason thread, but even then, its not quite right. the spurs have 16 mil or so coming off the books this season. but we are 11 or so mil over the cap. that only leaves a net of 5 or so mil to spend, or just the MLE. you cant get all those players with just the MLE to spend.

i think we can sign a player to a 5 million dollar contact, but that doesnt have to be from the MLE. so we can actually spend our 5 mill+ the mle. (please correct me if im wrong.)
Manu Ginobili:

nope. to get that 5 mil in cap space, you have to renounce the MLE. if you dont renounce the MLE, it counts against your available cap until you use it (ie, we would be 0.5 mil over the cap). we have the MLE (~5.5 mil) and the BAE (~1.8 mil).

We need a scoring big alongside Duncan, who could probably come off the bench, play 30 good minutes, rebound and knock down shots as well play the post.. one who can be had for cheap is Charlie V.. sure his defense isn't great, but in Pop's system, he could be a good team defender.. and he can be had for cheap too.. I think a package of this year's first pick and the right to splitter (who knows when he's gonna come down) will do.

and then we can go on and sign someone like carlos delfino + ryan gomes using our MLE...

TP / Vaughn
Ginboli / Delfino / Udoka
Bowen / Gomes / Udoka
Duncan / Charlie V
Duncan / Oberto / Mahinmi

So we give up a great slasher and winner for a guy whose game is taking contested fadeaway jumpshots. And we give up picks. Great, where do I sign up?
