Kendrick Perkins salary...$4,480,912...BEST BARGAIN IN NBA!

What a friggin great move by Danny Ainge to lock Perk up when he did. The big question is how did Perks agent allow him to sign for so little? Big men, as we all know are a premium in the NBA. Even average big men get big contracts. We get Perk for the next 3 years at around 4.1 million a year. After the playoffs, this may be the best bargain in the NBA. Perk is not my favorite player, I know he takes time to gather the ball and go up for his shot. Hes also slow and an average free throw shooter, but this nullifies Scalabrines contract...look at it like this. Scal makes $3.5 mill the next 2 years, Perk makes $4.1. Perk should be making probably $5.5 to 7 million a year. So look at it like we didnt have SCALS and Perk signed for $7 million a year.......it all works out. The one thing PERK does better than anyone on the team is defend 1 on 1 against opposing centers. He is a great low post defender. His rebounding, block shots and low post defense is worth his salary, nevermind his occasional break out games where he is the best player on the court.

I had a similar post earlier in the year for LEON POWE, saying Danny should lock him up before this years playoffs. Well, one Tayshaun Prince break away dunk later and it looks like Leons chance at a big payday is shot. Not to change topics, but didnt LEON clearly outplay Big Baby all year long? Didnt he lead the league in efficiency per 48 minutes? Didnt he get 20 and 10 in numerous games where he got the chance to play

The main positive of PERKS contract is it will set the standard for what the other CELTICS are going to get. Tony Allen cant make more than Perk now....POWE and DAVIS...ditto. Rondo is the exception but after the playoffs this year, his contract value may have gone down a little bit.

Danny Ainge truly deserved Executive of the Year, I dislike Perk but you make great points.

the bargain is that perk is getting paid what he is worth
teams overpay for bigmen all the time
our big boy has a fair contract

He wanted to stay here when he signed. He truly is a bargain and he is 23.

He is a bargain considering what big men like Randolph, Curry, Ben Wallace and others make for doing less

If he played EVERY game like he did the last game then of course he would be a huge bargain. Right now he is paid fairly. If he is ignored he can do some damage.

It's no bargain. The guy had one great game. In saying that, he averages 6ppg,6rpg. I would say he is gatting FMV. He is not a great defensive player by any means. I just don't see how he is a bargain.

Perk is decent but he's not gonna do what he did the other night on a regular basis. He would be Dwight Howard if that was the case. We got a good deal for him but I wouldn't say Danny is a genius or anything for locking up Perk for a few years.

Yeah I couldn't believe it at the time we signed him. Perk has been injury prone before this year and even had some close calls (I thought he separated his shoulder again during one game this year) so there was an incentive to get it done. A lot of NBA centers have succombed to injury.

Perk was smart.

He took good money and security to stay where he wanted to be. Remember how he's had his shoulder come out from time to time, and how there was risk that might become chronic? He was one injury from being a never was. Now he's set for life and can focus on basket ball being a good team player. His little Baby Perk is well cared for, as will be any more little Perks to come, and he'll still be young and in his prime when his next potential big pay day comes around.

Danny was smart too.

Perk always has these flashes of brilliance where everyone overrates him. I can think of one stretch earlier this year, and another stretch right before he was derailed by injuries either last season or 2 seasons ago.

He cant do it consistently, thats why hes paid $4 mil. At his peak he may be a 12/8/2 player.

Let a 23 year old center go to the market with a 7ppg 6 rpg 1.5 blcks with 1 assist on 60 fg% and you'll find him sitting with a MLE level contract.

Perk is getting 4.5, then 4, then 4.25, then 4.5

Guy is a bargin right now, he's going to continue to be one because he's going to get better with experience. It's a coup.

Lets see what Diop gets this year and that will be a good benchmark.

Agreed. It is a bargain and most of us knew it when he signed (i think Perk didn't have great leverage because of his injury woes)

His contract will only look better as his game develops.

It is awesome to watch him develop from "raw-project-big-man" to "starting-center-on-an-nba-champion!"

Perk has the NBA body but more importantly a Killer mentality (strong work ethic, competitive, etc)... only injuries can slow him down.

Although Kendrick Perkins is a great bargain at his contract,

as are James Posey and Eddie House;

when RealGM calculated the value of players versus their contract,

Rajon Rondo was, I believe, the most underpaid guy in the NBA.

What?! Perk may not be consistent when it comes to numbers, but he has been a really good defender all year, and a great defender in the playoffs. Have you missed him getting stuck with a perimeter player on a switch all series and still keeping them in front of him? Have you missed the general lack of production in the paint from whoever Perk is guarding? Perk not fouling out of any of the games? If you only see 6ppg, 6rpg when you look at Perk, you must be checking the box score instead of watching the game. Even Van Gundy and Mark Jackson were showing Perk some love all series, noticing how well he was defending.

He made a key block at the end on Billups.

I think he is a bargain at $4 million because he knows his role playing next to Pierce, Allen, and KG. As long as they're all still here in Boston, he'll continue to play a key role. He plays decent D, rebounds, and blocks a few shot every now and then. Nobody's expecting him to do much more than that.

He also works his butt off during practices. He's gained a lot of muscle and lost a lot of fat since his rookie season. He was a chubby kid when he first came in the league with terrible footwork and an unpolished inside game. Since then, he's improved immensely by working with the coaches. His performance in this series will give him a lot of confidence going into next season.

I guess he was a good draft/trade back in '03. Supposedly, Leo Papile really liked him and scouted him in high school. At first, I didn't like the trade, but it's finally starting to pay off. He just needed some veteran guidance. You can't find a better big man in the league for $4 million a season.

You're not supposed to like him you, you're not a C's fan! This not so good player made you're really good young guy (Bynum) look like crap both time we played this season.

Perk's value is on the defensive end. Did you guys not see him play Rasheed? Did you guys not notice his rotations when helping out Rondo? This guy is a defensive force and he does have an offensive game (not the pretties, but effective) it's just not needed on this team.
