Superstars to NY
Usually during the off-season is when you hear all sorts of rumors of X wanting to play in NY or Y trying to force a trade to NY, yet none of these happen, and the players end up using NY as leverage to get what they really want; MONEY!
Every off-season you'll have 2 or 3 big name stars seemingly wanting to go to NY, but it never happens. Why does it seem that everyone wants to go to NY when
- They aren't always the team that can pay them the most, given the situation they are in and have been for some time now.
- They don't have a solid team to put around a "star"
I mean just because the NYKs might not have a superstar player, other teams aren't necessarily dying to trade them to you for nothing, or the player themselves necessarily don't want to come to NY just because NY is NY; they are other big markets they can go to; LA, Chicago? And they are other teams that these players can get paid and Win at the same time.

Yet, they aren't anything right now in the league, which is the point/concern at hand.....
But still when you think about it and a lot of sports reporters talk about it, every player wants to be that guy that brings the Knicks back into the elite, do you know what that would do to a players career? That would sky rocket the hell out of them lol.
That guy who brings the Knicks back will be a hero in NY eyes and thats huge.

Well, in his defense, he said "grammer" not spelling.
Well NY is one of the biggest markets in all of sports. The exposure and thus the pay checks are most likely going to be much bigger then say Cleveland, for example ()
Did Alex Rodriguez get any more popular or exposure playing for NY? Not really. Unless you call stories on chasing strippers exposure.
Glad you used Cleveland as an example because it just goes to show the 'exposure' angle is severely overrated. Does Lebron need, or can even get, any more exposure? Its basically impossible.
Even KG got his shine in Minny. Getting paid by adidas, heralded as one of the greatest PF this generation. The only thing Boston did for KG was make him relevant as a player again, playing for a new contender.
If Lebron, or any player, want more exposure and add to their legacy they have to do one thing, win. Doesn't matter where.

^^^ NY paid ARod A LOT more then Seattle or Texas were willing to. His endorsements also increased dramatically when he got to NY. And Yes, ARod got A LOT more exposure for playing in NY. He's more popular now then he ever was on seattle or Texas. Why? Because the Yankees are a bigger market, have more exposure and air time in big market areas, and are willing to pay a lot more.

So what the Yankees could pay a lot more? Can't compare that with the NBA, and I doubt Cleveland will go cheap on Lebron.

Anyways, the main reason Arod had fewer endorsements in Texas is because the team sucked. I will agree my example of Arod was a little weak, but my point still stands.
If a player wants exposure and endorsements then they have to win. If the MJ Bulls were really the MJ Bucks do you really think he would be less of a brand? Some might say yes I guess, I don't though.
Lebron has the hype and the 'keys' to becoming an NBA icon, continually winning is all thats left.
"I definitely knew he traveled, but I didn't know they were going to call it. That was one of them situations in which a great player made a move...and they called the call. And I was like, 'Oh, man, there is a God.'

knicks have had horrible personnel, on and off the court for the past couple of years. thats probably why.

David Lee's a bench player and he does Vitamin Water ads
Wilson Chandler was a rookie drafted at #21 and he's signed by Pony
endorsement deals.
You talk about ARod and Lebron...these cats have been hype before they went to New York.
Let's talk about the players that are larger than they are because of New York...
David Wright wouldn't be as big as he is if he hadn't played for the Mets. And he's a marketable guy.
In terms of basketball, the Knicks are always getting talked about. Good or bad, it's publicity.
