I would however say that even though it's in the players control, int's not in the NBA's best interest to have suspended those players.
Yes Diaw and Amare broke the rules, but the rule seems pretty unecessary in the first place. I don't think many basketball fans who were not cheering for the Spurs or against the Suns wanted to see Diaw and Amare get suspended for something so trivial.
The league needs to revisit the walking on the court during an altercation rule and the technical foul rule and ask the following questions: Are the rules necessary the way they exist today, and do the rules improve the quality of the game, i.e. the product they are trying to sell.
