Mock Draft: Maxiell or Garcia
Ok, pretend you have a draft. You are on the board, and the 2 players left are Maxiell and Garcia....you are picking for the best available player, not necessarily to fit a position of need.
who do you pick and why?

Francisco Garcia? Dude is really a lot worse than his stats say, he stifles ball movement and forces a lot of things trying to play hero from what I see. I'll take Maxiell.

I have seen all of Garcia's NBA career and some at Louisville. So, I have a better perspective than others that sees Garcia at small samples. Garcia is the kind of player that makes you very happy or pulling out your hair. Like he makes a spectacular play i.e. a key block, 3, or etc and the next possession he makes a bone headed turnover. But he is MUCH better controlling himself from a bonehead turnover this year than last. Well, Garcia is a versatile player that plays the 1/2/3 positions and the PF if you are playing the small ball game. Garcia is a good jumpshooter and a good defender. He has great defensive instincts. We use him as a point-forward and pretty much excel under Reggie Theus. He is clutch (Hit various GWs and key jumpers) and he is part of our future with Martin. A combo of Martin/Garcia is like a twin headed dragon (Offense/Defense). To NO-KG-AI's comment, you have probably seen the FEW games of the BAD Garcia...Other than that, he has been great for us.

I kinda got that feeling Kingsfan10, one of those guys that makes you cringe, but then will look like superman.
the games that stick out in my head are Garcia trying to do to much, while everyone else stood around, then he got abused on the other end...

Yeah, I do agree that Garcia has these 2 sides but this year he has controlled his "BAD" side significantly. But sometimes his bad side shows up like when he is on fire he jacks up a stupid shot (Well, a heatcheck) and the other side he gets burned...But, you cant hate his passion of the game. He is really a hard working player... I'm pretty sure that next season, Garcia will be 99% of the time the good Garcia IMO...

I was going to say Max without hesitation, but reading your description of Garcia i see they are somewhat similar players on the fact that Max can be spectacular one night and the worst the next.
But i must say Max still gets my vote pretty easy, when he's on he is one of the most athletic and potentially dominanting big men in the game. I can see Max carving out a pretty good carreer possibly someday pulling down 16 and 10 and being a good sidekick. While Garcia strikes me as a perenial sixth man who may squeak out 12 points some season.

You're kind of half right. He does try to force things at times, but I've never thought of him as a ball-stopper--even during his rookie year when he was especially mistake-prone. In fact, I would say that probably half of his mistakes come when he's trying to make a spectacular pass.
Having said that, he's a tremendous shooter both spotting up and off the dribble, he can handle and pass well enough to play some PG (along with both wing spots), he's a very pesky defender, and he's very clutch. He can create his own shot quite effectively too, which isn't usually something one expects from their role players.
Over all, like others have said, he doesn't make mistakes nearly as often as he used to, partly because he is a smarter, more under control player than before, and partly because he is more comfortable in the NBA game and so when he tries to make the spectacular plays now, he often does succeed in doing so. He makes one or two bonehead plays a game but he almost always makes up for it and then some.
Having said all of that, I love Cisco, but I'll take Maxiell, specifically for my team, since we could really, really use a player like him and could probably cover for Cisco's absence.

I'd take Maxiell. Garcia isn't a bad player at all though.

Dwight Howard on his FT struggles:
"I just think everybody needs to stop talking about it," Howard said. "There's more to life than free throws."

Garcia improved significantly this past season, really as an overall player, getting better PT helped with that, too. Have to see him with regularity so far in the NBA, to know how he's gone.
But that said, knowing what I know after that draft, and as Maxiell slowly but steadily began to emerge? I'd take Maxiell over Garcia. I think the Kings should of done a better scouting job and taken things into consideration more. Other than that I don't see why they didn't take Maxiell. He's just the kind of player they needed in the near future, and could have still really used to the present. Taking Garcia was legit too, but I don't think as much as Maxiell. They had some veteran bigs, but none that were long-term, set players or something, and would only of been a year or so until Maxiell got into the rotation.
Happy with the Garcia pick, but would of preferred Maxiell.

Have you even watched ONE game that Garcia has played in? My gosh, he's the antithesis of what you say and the dude is CLUTCH AS HELL. He hit about 3 game winners last year and probably another half dozen nail in the coffin type shots. The dude is a winner and brings it every night. I take Garcia ten time out of ten. Maxiell just has more exposure because he was on the Pistons last year.NO-KG-AI wrote:Francisco Garcia? Francisco Garcia plays intense defense against the opposing player, on defense he can guard other teams

Must be true, if it's a rumor you read on Hoopshype.
