Beasley said. ``I thought I was 6-9. I heard 6-7. In college, I was 6-10. I might have grown an inch maybe, I don't know.''

Last year he was 6"8 with Socks and 6"9 with shoes. The guy is probley about 6"9 now. One thing is for sure, He didnt get shorter

The measurements were taken but not released yet.
http://canadianpress.google.com/article/ALeqM5jwmEYhcpECyuFmnigvztLHJ5jSuQ

Beasley also had his strength and much-ballyhooed height measured, quipping that he hoped to be listed as six-foot-three and unable to do a single bench press at the standard 185-pound weight.
The NBA did not immediately announce Beasley's height or release any other details of the testing. At Kansas State, where he averaged 26.2 points and an NCAA-leading 12.4 rebounds this past season, he was listed at six-foot-10 - although speculation has been rampant that he's probably closer to six-foot-eight.

6"8 1/2

6"9 1/2 with shoe

That's good enough for me
now watch Rose measure out as 6"2 3/4
6"4 with shoe

This is why we hear about OJ mayo
who should measure out at 6"4 -6-5 has good size and power
Image

Fun facts :
- The Miami Heat surpassed the Knicks in championships
- Only the Lakers, Bulls, Celtics and Spurs have more championships

If he measured out at 6'9.5 with shoes, I'd think he would've mentioned that in the interview. I'm going to assume the 6'8.5 was with shoes on until the official measurements come out in a couple days.

If Riley had Beasley at the top of his draft board before the measurements came out, I don't think this is enough to make Beasley drop.
For a long time it gave me nightmares, witnessing an injustice like that. It’s a constant reminder of just how unfair this world can be.I can still hear them taunting him, Silly Rabbit tricks are for kids.I mean why couldn’t they just give him some cereal?

He'll be 6'10" when it's all said and done. He's only 19. Either way, his height isn't a problem.

I agree that height shouldn't detract from Beasley being the #2 pick (if he's there), I don't see how you can be so confident that he's going to still grow as you are suggesting.

Only a small minority of people (including the really tall/basketball players) grow at this age. Furthermore, Beasley was measured 1 year ago at the McDonald's game to be 6'7.5"(w/o shoes) and 6'9" (w/ shoes). Essentially there is no change. If Beasley were still growing, you would've seen growth during this past year.

Generally speaking, men stop growing at the age of 21.

FWIW, Chad Ford is reporting that Beasley only got 11'9" on the running jump.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/draft2008 ... atch080531

For those familiar with the numbers, that's pretty bad. For reference, Tyrus Thomas and Rudy Gay got 12'3". Aaron Gray got 11'9".

Either Beasley has a short standing reach or can't jump.

here is Ford's comment on that
"Assuming he has a standing reach of about 8-foot-10, that's a 35-inch vertical. Not off the charts, but not too shabby, either."

so it's not "pretty bad"

also from that article, Ford says Beasley was the first one on the floor but last to workout, and that everyone [direct quote] "watched in awe" as he drained NBA 3 pointer after NBA 3 pointer, he shot as well as anyone on the court, and from deep or midrange he shoots the lights out..

so while you're damning him, offer up the praise from the paragraph preceeding.

He had a 9'1" reach a year ago - why would it shrink 3 inches? If it is 9'1" - then thats a 32" vertical - and thats pretty bad.

It doesn't matter too much though because Beasley is so skilled he doesn't need great athleticism.

Oh, and this is from DraftExpress:

Michael Beasley looked super fluid and athletic getting up and down the court, finishing with either hand and looking to be in pretty good shape. He attacked the drills with a lot of competitive fire, but most definitely was clowning around way too much throughout the day right underneath the noses of the Miami Heat and Chicago Bulls. There were a few people that expressed concern with some of his antics over the past few days. He shot the ball just decently.

While this didnt help him its questionable how much it hurt him since its unlikely he falls past 2. So at the end of the day hes between 6'8 and 6'9
