Clippers targeting Augustin with 7th pick?

Is 7th a Reach for Augustin?

In desperate need of help at the point guard position, and with D.J. Augustin in their sights holding the 7th overall pick, the Clippers are pondering whether to pull the trigger on the extremely productive sophomore playmaker from Texas. Augustin will clearly be the best point guard on the board, but may be a bit of a reach where they are selecting. Workouts will play a big role in the decision of Elgin Baylor and key decision maker Mike Dunleavy Sr. They will also likely nab a big man with the 35th pick.

Adding interest is the fact that Augustin has reportedly decided to hire Thad Foucher of Los Angeles-based agency Wasserman Media Group as his representation. Foucher is from Augustin

I wouldn't mind it. Augustin seems like a big intangibles guy and very fundamentally sound. He is a streaky shooter, but so was Sam when he was here. If Augustin can work with Brand on the P&R, I think he'd be a great pick. Augustin really seems like a competitor to me.

I like what he brings to the table in spite of his size. I wouldn't take him at 7, but perhaps if we traded down.

If Augustin was 6'3", there's no way I would pass on him; he's a better pure PG than Westbrook. But after having to see the shorties Knight and Dickau last season, I just can't do it.

I wouldn't mind drafting him if we traded down. But he's on the bottom of my list of players I think we should draft.

I'd rather Augustin than Westbrook. Here's my bright idea:

#7 (Gordon) + Tim Thomas to Indiana for #11 (Augustin) + Jeff Foster

Foster is expiring and would make a great third big man to rotate in with Brand and Kaman. And getting rid of Thomas is always a plus.

Trading down has never worked out well for the Clippers in the past. Look at the trade from #2 to #4 for Livingston. I'd rather see them keep the pick than try to trade up or down a few positions in this draft, it isn't that good besides the top 2 players.

If he was 6'3" we wouldn't have a shot at him.
