Intrest in Marbury??

Post#1 » by Mecca » Wed May 28, 2008 10:55 pm

Just wanted to know if you guys had intrest in him. He is an expiring contract after the season, and Since Livingston has been injured and all, and Marbury could like a change of scenery and go back to being a big time scorer. The Trade would include David Lee, A Double Double guy the last 2 seasons off the bench, Your thoughts.........

I wouldn't be against it. The fact that he's expiring makes Marbury a possibility. I wouldn't want to give up too much for him though. Maybe a deal along the lines of Maggette S&T and Tim Thomas for Marbury and prospect(s) for starters.

I wouldn't be totally against it either, but Marbury is set to make $22mil. Would be difficult to come up with a group of players to get this done.

Maggette (S&T) $9, Mobley $9, TT ($6) = $24

Marbury ($22) + David Lee ($2) = $24.

Does that work?

Does it really help the Knicks? They're probably better off keeping him and letting him walk in a year. David Lee is one of the few keepers on that team.

Making this deal just keeps the Knicks on a high payroll a few years longer.

I also would not be against it, as it seems Stephon can be a decent role player if he was part of a better team, not having as much pressure put on him.

^ It would have to be Thomas and I wouldn't be disappointed if it happened. I share the same opinion on Marbury as ClipperDomination does. If Marbury can play off Brand in the pick and roll, I'll take it.

Marbury & D.Lee sounds very tempting.

I'm totally against wasting 22 million on Marbury even if it is for one season, that is a bit much for a role player these days.

This is funny because my cousin and I were discussing Marbury to the Clippers last month. I woul love for Marbury to come to our team. I'd like it if the Knicks bought him out, but these trades don't sound too bad.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

Hmm, I wouldn't mind the cap room at the end of the season. Lee would be a nice back up to Brand although we already have Powell. As #2 pointed out, if Marbury was bought out I wouldn't mind giving him a chance at much smaller price tag. $22M is a lot and would leave our bench looking almost as sad as it did this past season. I'd rather just keep what we have and use Thomas & Mobley's expirings as bargaining chips in '09-'10.

Obviously, there will be no trade for Marbury, it is too hard for the Clippers to scrape together a package without involving Brand given his salary.

I don't see Marbury seriously considering the Clippers if he is bought out either, this situation would be similar to the Steve Francis negotiating process last year. All it takes is 1 or 2 playoff teams offering similar money and the Clippers would lose out on him.

What value would his expiring contract give to us anyway?

The Clippers payroll situation going forward is going to be dictated first by whether Brand stays or leaves. If he stays, we won't have space to sign any big FA's even if we traded for Marbury and then let his contract run out.

As MKwest says, we need a bench, and 2 of our significant role players (Thomas and Mobley) are expiring soon anyway. I don't see the Clippers trying to tweak their cap in order to try to re-sign Brand AND make a huge offer to some big FA.
