Woodson will be our HC

Post#1 » by Skar » Sat May 31, 2008 3:47 am

I just see it, him being resigned for a year or two, all because the owners like Woodson. Don't get your hopes up for Avery Johnson or other candidates guys, you may be heart broken.

Agreed.

JJ's approval of Woodson looms large, too.

I hope our owners and GM sit down with Woody and him them that although he is staying, he needs to play his bench more earlier in the season and play faster in the fourth quarter.

Unfortunately, when you re-hire a guy, you affirm him -- and his methods.

What are we going to tell him, "You'd better not coach like you've been doing or we'll .... re-sign you to another contract,"?
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

Is it too much to ask that they learn from the Thrashers? Made the playoffs, no off season improvements tried to keep status quo, started bad, fired coach 9 games into season.

Resigning Mike Woodson tells me that the ASG either have rose colored glasses and think he's the cat's meow or expect it to be another 3 years until we compete for anything remotely like a championship so why spend now.

evildallas- I don't particularly think the ASG are trying to build a championship caliber roster. I think after the past few years they are very content to just compete for the playoffs for the foreseeable future.

The team might improve due to our youth. It's still hard to just bring back the same exact coaching staff and rotation(Anderson might replace Zaza)and hope for a significant. It seems like Sund wants to "stay with the plan" but making the playoffs is going to be much tougher this year with Miami and Chicago getting the top 2 picks. There's also no telling what the Knicks, Bucks, and Bobcats will be able to do with new coaches.

Well, that's sad, but probably true. The problem with thinking an 8th place team with 37 wins is on the right path to be a playoff contender each year is it is very easy to slip back down.

What happens if a key players suffers an injury next year?

Should Woody return with a 2 year type contract, I dont' see much improvement in this team, even if we sign both Joshes.
Bibby willl be playing for one more big contract, and I just don't think Woody's methods bode much improvement for this roster.
Unless we make a trade and shake up the first five, we should see more of the same inconsistent team that we are accustomed to.

I don't see how keeping Woody gives us hope for a top 4 playoff slot.
Is it possible Detroit could help us out here and take him from us after they can Saunders, who has failed once again?

Does anyone believe in miracles?

Actually that stuff happens all the time. When you retain a guy it's because he did enough to earn another contract, it doesn't mean everything he did was right. If ASG are competent (guess we're screwed there), they will tell him that he's still on thin ice despite the extension.

I'd be more willing to give him another shot if only he would play his bench more often - Acie Law in particular. He needs to learn to develop his young players, but keep in mind that he did want Chris Paul over Marvin.

We don't know how Woodson would use his bench if he had actual solid NBA players on there. Childress was the only useful bench player he had this season. I sure as hell wouldn't have played Acie Law any more minutes with my job on the line.

^^^ That's what I've been trying to say. Woody was fighting for his job last year, he wasn't going to take the risk of losing it just to aid Law's development. I think you'll see him use his bench much more early on this year.

Acie is very key to our season next year regardless of who our coach is.

In case some of you hadn't noticed...we have one of the worst benches in the league. I wouldn't play anyone other than Childress and Pachulia. If Acie improves dramatically, he might also earn some playing time.

So, the Hawks have one of the worse bench in the league. And considering that Childress and Pachulia compose of the bench players who play the most minutes consistently. What does this tell you?

Master- that tells me that Woodson plays bench players that are good enough to deserve minutes.

u never know what u have till u play them.We could have a Leon Powe or Paul Milsap type player but we'd never know because Woody would never give them a shot.Solo looked better than Zaza alot of the times he played this year but he never plays.and Zaza has a clear size advantages but plays just as small.

These guys can provide something. He wasn't fighting for his life at the beginning when those guys were still sitting.Mario West is limited and he'd be a pretty good backup if he developed at least a mid range jumper, but when Marvin was out and he started he about made more plays than Marvin did all year in a matter of one frickin quarter.lol he even managed a jump hook in the lane and a slam on the fast break from Horford.

I think these guys can have roles.Any good coach would have found spots for some of these guys. How u think Eddie House has made a living this long?

but for our bench I wish we could get a guy like James Posey.
