One particular Lakers-Celtics moment you want avenged?

Post#1 » by Point forward » Sat May 31, 2008 9:53 am

I want to have that junior, junior sky hook avenged. In THIS fashion:

* Kobe hits a clutch three with 12s left which puts up LA up by 2.
* With 6s left, KG is fouled
* KG makes one FT, misses the second, but Gasol tips the ball out of bounds.
* Rajon Rondo hits that junior sky hook over Gasol and Odom
* Kobe misses a buzzer beater which looked frighteningly good.

That 1987 moment HAUNTS me. It was one of my traumatic experiences as a kid. I want it exorcised!! :banghead: :banghead:

You know---That Junior Junior Sky Hook only happened because the refs awarded the Lakers the ball after a missed free throw by Kareem----the ball went flying out of bounds--and the refs said it was off McHale....if you watch the replay,Mychal Thompson went over McHale's back and hit the ball.....but of course, the refs automatically gave the ball back to the Lakers....should have been our ball and our win.

My memory of the replay is McHale flailing from having obviously been shoved hard. I don't recall the didn't-touch-it-last aspect, however.

But yes -- the first thing that came to mind was the junior, junior skyhook, as a continuation of the rebound McHale missed without it being his fault.

What I've really forgotten is -- who on the Lakers missed the FT? I don't recall it being a deliberate miss ...

Don't be so literal. I'd just settle for Pierce shutting down Kobe on a final possession, the way he's done in the past to Jordan, TMac, and everybody else.

Incidentally, this would confirm that Kobe is NOT the equal of Jordan. :D

I can dream, can I? :D

Anyway, the LA guy who missed the 2nd FT was Kareem. KAJ simply CHOKED on that attempt but got bailed out by fate.

How about the very existence of their franchise? May sound like a bit much, but I hate the Lakers. I honestly think we stand a better chance against them than we would against the Spurs, I think LA-Boston is just great for the league, was even hoping for an LA-Boston finals, and yet every LA-SA game I watched I couldn't help but root for the Spurs.

Exactly the moment I thought of when I read the title, although I was thinking PP with the baby hook

LOL, great thread guys, I wonder how many of you recall a game the Lakers played at the Garden in the mid-80's, when both Teams were powerhouses and the Celtics lead the entire game yet LOST...

That's right, the Lakers trailed the entire game, yet being one point behind with time expiring, Magic launched a shot that was in the air as time expired, yet it went in and the Lakers won by one....

those were the days...

Exactly how I felt! I was having this argument with my sister (a die-hard Cs fan who would've puked if she had to endure the Spurs in the Finals again), but I told her that anything that prevents the Fakers--and Phil Jackson--from getting another championship would be a good thing!

And I agree 100% with the OP: AVENGE THE BABY HOOK!

Other moments I hated:

1. Worthy with a poke steal, then dribbling the ball that had been rolling on the floor and taking it in for the breakaway.

2. Magic throwing a 3/4-court quarter-ender ball baseball-style and actually sinking it.

3. Worthy as a seemingly impossible-to-stop scorer from the high post on those one-step drives.
Banned temporarily for, among other sins, being "Extremely Deviant".

I found it incredibly frustrating how a 38 yr old Kareem was able to dominate in 1985. KAJ is great and all, but gimme a break!

EDIT: also, we won Game 1 with 148-114 with Scott Wedman hitting all his 11 shots. Who could know how incredibly frustrating the rest of the series would be? That was also the time in my life where I started to fear this Michael Cooper guy.

Well, I guess when the refs let you get away with throwing elbows in everyone's face, you can dominate no matter what your age is.
