Gilbert Arenas - Which team could use him?

Post#1 » by Santana Moss » Sat May 31, 2008 10:07 pm

He can exercise an option to opt out of his contract with the Wizards, so what should he do, and which team could use him?

Should he just stay with the Washington Wizards where he can try to use one more year to restore his value after this injury-plagued season?

Could the Boston Celtics use him?

Could the LA Lakers use him?

If I was Washington I try to do a trade with him going to the Clippers and the Wiz getting back Brand. I think the Wizards have enough perimeter scoring without him.

Washington has a pretty effective 3/4 combo without Brand. Why does that make sense for them?

They are only a few teams that can pay him what he wants; close to max $.

Now, if he waits till next off-season plenty of teams will be under the cap and he'll have an array of teams to choose from....

He really only wants to opt out for money, I don't think anyone can afford him except Washington. Well that is if you think he'll be getting a max contract.

Miami. Him and Wade could ride the injured list together.

Blazers would welcome him with open arms. Either via a trade now or next summer when we have $20M plus in cap room.

Arena
Roy
Webster
Aldridge
Oden
etc etc etc

On a more serious note.

Gilbert and Wade are too similar kind of players too have on the court at 1 time.

They money we'd be paying Gilbert would be better spent on maybe a 3 or a 4 in the mold of a a Josh Smith or an Elton Brand/Carlos Boozer or even a Chris Bosh ( ).

A team with a primary playmaker already on it.. A team like the Suns, Jazz or maybe the Hornets could use him..

Nah. A primary play-maker would need the ball too much. In order for Gilbert to be effective, he needs the ball, where he can break down the opposing defense or dish it off. He's not an incredibly effective player off-ball.

That probably eliminates the Blazers then. Roy is the same way, although Roy's probably more effective without the ball than Arenas.

That said, I'd still want to see the Blazers purse him hard if he were to become a FA in 09 instead of this summer. He's just too talented of a player not to give it a shot and see if it works imo. If worse comes to worse, I'm sure the Blazers could find a taker for him on the trade market.

Well the Magic need a PG and a scorer, so he seems to fit the bill.

Most definitely. I honestly believe he's making a giant mistake opting out this summer. There are too few teams with cap space this summer and he's coming off a injury riddled season.
