Varejao got paid more than Cleveland wanted to pay him. You can dodge it all you want, you were pretty clear in calling for the stand off and pretty inconsistent in the numbers you were throwing around on Kaman and Biedrins. You need a permanent little birdie implant, JRHomer.

Varejao actually turned down an earlier offer that would have given him more money. That is common knowledge.

Please show me the quotes where I said the things you say I said (and unlike you I'm not always editing my posts).

And while you're at it if you can address some of the unanswered questions that have sprung up over your comments - tell us why you say Belinelli thinks he's a superstar, and who has a five year, $60 mil deal.

Twink, you've been consistently off on lots of stuff.

Collect all of your quotes from this thread and show the world how non-wrong you are if you're still bothered by what I have to say and want to defend your honor.

As for Varejao, you have confused the situation entirely and helped show why the Warriors need to be worried. Varejao bullied the Cavs into several offers and got what he wanted most - unrestricted status for next offseason's fedding frenzy and over $10 million for the two years leading up to it - without ever leaving home.

He rejected their offer and got an opt out clause inserted by the Bobcats on a deal that was all of $2.6 million less over three years than the Cavs more restrictive offer, which was still above their intended stand off range.

So now you see why Biedrins and Duffy are totally prepared to not seek out any MLE offers right now and will be ready for the market if the Warriors, Grizzlies, Sixers, or some other team does not offer them the going rate ($10 million annually averaged over the life of the contract and upward).

If something else happens, fine, I will certainly say how surprised I am that Bill Duffy caved when he had no rational reason to do so in this case.

Opt out? That's called the consolation prize, but I'm sure AV's 6.7 PPG and 8.3 RPG are going to merit some HUGE offers in free agency.

great point... I think Danny Ferry is a terrible GM, and the people of Cleveland will be calling for his head in about a year when it's become clear that he's lost them Lebron, but he definitely played the AV and Sasha P situations correctly.

My point is just that Biedrins did not show that much improvement or consistency to merit me getting excited over him leaving for a huge deal somewhere else. I'll be pissed if he signs with Memphis for 8 million starting salary... but if he signs with memphis on a deal starting at 11 or 12 million... i wont miss him that much. He's a good, but not a franchise center.

uh....this is GO:DEN STATE and the last "franchise center" we had was Nate Thurmond. Biedrins was what? 21 yr old and 2 years running was near the top of the NBA in FG made with high RBD + shotblock numbers per min-no sucky attitude or strip club brawls. If you have the league's most efficient scorer.....You want him IN THE GAME and you GET HIM THE FREAKIN" ball!
How bloody simple is that?

I don't give a flying xxxx how much of Cohen's money Beans is paid. I think it's safe to assume he won't be overpaid.

I figure Nellie has one year left here and Biedrins has 10-15 so Nellie's quirks really are more a temporary speed bump than a permanent obstacle.

Rem, I like Beans a lot, and hope and expect he will be here a long time.

But if he starts at $12 mil? I think the franchise is better off without him.

I think (and I don't know exactly how it should be done in order to be in accordance with NBA rules) that they should offer Biedrens a 3-6 year deal with an opt out clause which would allow him to get out of his contract after 3 years. At that point (assuming that he peforms the way we expect him to) the Ws could offer him max money. I'd like to see his contract start out at 8 Mil (or even 7). This would be a pretty good increase (about 2X) and significantly > than the Q0 and could be justified by the Ws as a means to keep the team together for a solid run next year (Nellie's and perhaps Baron's last). This is the "tact" that I believe Warriors Management now needs to be taking.

Biedrens is an attitude guy and this is what the great young players (and old sometimes) in order to keep a team together. This is what Warriors management has to do and what you have to do in order to be able to put together a championship team (see Nash, Wade and even Shaq when he went to Miami). Biedrens is a character guy who might be willing to do it and Duffy (if he's as tight with the Warriors as indicated) may be willing to go along with it, as long as he's/they're confident that they'll be rewarded in the long run. This might even help with Monta's negotiations as well. Might even help with Baron's negotiations too. Management needs to let the players know that they're committed to bringing a championship back here and maybe they'll get some help from the players. Monta and Biedrens in particular must realize that between the two of them (and Wright) they could wind of up with a pretty good thing here together for a long time if things work out. Players sometimes are willing to "make sacrifices" if they feel that the team they are playing for is building for a championship.

The idea of "screwing around" with Biedrens on this contract thing (like they did last year) would be a huge mistake imo. This would fall right into Nellies hands as I'm pretty sure he'd like nothing better than to trade him as he's our most valuable trade piece and could probably net a lot in return. If they do that, I'll no longer be a Warrior fan, I'll probably root for whatever team they trade him to.

I'm not entering this discussion to troll but to look at Biedrins from the perspective of another team. As a Philly fan, mgmt signed Dalembert to a 6 year/63 million dollar contract at the end of his contract 3 years ago. The GM got hammered & we had to read on these forums about how overpaid he was for the past 3 years. It's all ridiculous. Young bigs are going to get $10 million a year if they are good. Al Jefferson is averaging $13 million. Biedrens is worth the 10 million per year & your mgmt should not fool around. In the case of Biedrens, Philly could make him that offer this year & just might which would force GS to match. We're in the same situation with Iguodala who expects 10-12 million per year. He'll get it but IMO he is a less valuable player than Biedrens.

everyone needs to realize...

Biedrins and Monta are locks at contract negotiations starting at 10M+ a season. Biedrins is worth 11M a season at 5 years. Monta and Biedrins are going to be staples in the franchise for years to come.
Lets Go Baron Davis...i dont care what jersey you put on. Lets go.
Big Smooth is focused and ready to handle the centers of the league.
Curry and Ellis will be a top 5 back court this season. 6/25/2010

Twink continues to get it all wrong. Varejao and his agent WERE NOT EVEN ON THE COURT TO START THE SEASON. They held the Cavs over a bucket and bled Danny Ferry. The "Nene money" talk was not the point. Varejao getting to negotiate openly with the teams who want him was. Cleveland got Varejao at a reduced cost for two years and no control as of this offseason. Twink, you'd like to say that Varejao has no value and that it's good Cleveland did not work out a real longterm deal with him but what is actually the case is this: Varejao can do exactly what he has done to this point and get paid at a very high rate for a very long time. The teams who were interested in him (and Charlotte was) consider Varejao to be misused in Cleveland and don't want him to score. As a defensive/rebounding presence, to average 8+ rebounds in less than 30 minutes off the bench is an incredibly desirable NBA asset when it comes with such an active and strong defensive presence. So your usual statistical sampling to make a cavalier and utterly wrong assessment of how the NBA evaluation system will work on a player like Varejao says little but does reinforce that you only read a few online sources to come up with this garbage.

Varejao, as a restricted free agent, had no power by all logic - that's why the system is one of the hottest topics for the players' union right now - and he and his agent played a powerless status for over $10 million guaranteed when Cleveland thought he'd either take a lowball three year deal or play as Twink recommends making Biedrins play, on the qualifying offer for great team savings!

Danny Ferry and Chris Mullin have a lot in common. Robert Rowell has to make a real call now that is not just sending money away.

Biedrins and Ellis are bigtime players who will get bigtime contracts, whether from the Warriors or someone else. That is the topic of this thread and this is the reality:

Biedrins and Ellis have the MARKET status to average $10 million and up per year. And since the best market in some time is coming fast this next offseason and then 2010 after that, that market status is all that matters. So Twink, when you talk about Biedrins liking the Bay (and having no clue what you're talking about) and about hometown discounts and milking young players who can hold all the cards on a FAR faster track than Varejao was able to (that "consolation prize" is total freedom to leave Cleveland for a host of very interested teams in locations he'd prefer to be in with coaches who he'd prefer to play for and now he's in a contract year with freedom on the horizon),

You miss the mark, as usual.

Biedrins can easily get $10 million and up on the open market. If he doesn't, Bill Duffy caved. Could happen. But why would it?

GSW, I think Monta + Biedrins will average less (combined) than $20 mil per.

I think the Warriors hope so, too.

If the FO manages to pull that off, then maybe they're not as lame as we thought. Remains to be seen though.

Screw the coins. If you are on a blue collar budget...don't buy into a high stakes game. reality is that nobody else really can toss around $12 mill...with maybe 2-3 exceptions and Beans won't be the easy target since we get the option to match. If the Griz wanted to spend ANYTHING-they would not have taken it up the rearend in the Gasol fiasco.
Sixers have Daly at $10 mill +

Bobs need to pay Okafor.

Biedrins will get in the area of $10 mill...which to me is more than just beer money. The W's front office won't lowball him or go out on a limb-but will be aware that There's few teams with ANY cap room.

Biedrins will remain a Warrior. Book it. We dropped the ball in terms of turning POB or Kosta into even a desperation fill in. Who's plan B?
If the Warriors bungle and lose Monta...at least we have G depth. If somehow the W's were to lose Beans....then Mullin..Cohen..Nellie etc are in the wrong business. I think they grasp that reality.

We're desperate for big men. The only shot we have is re-signing our draft picks if we can't convince teams to send us their productive big men without giving up Monta or somebody. Biedrins won't be a max player, so we shouldn't worry about that. He'll probably be Tyson Chandler figures or somebody in that realm.

We need a competent, consistent, productive, and efficient center that plays defense. Without one we're stuck in the pre-Dampier/Dampier non-contract year/"Murphy as a center" days. Nobody seems to win without a center or a power forward that at least behaves like a center. Then we need 1-2 star players and preferably guards/swingmen to support that center/power forward since they are the most skilled and creative at supporting inside players.
