Of course it translates to the NBA. Teams willing to pay more are in bigger markets. They just have to pay the luxury tax, they do it all the time. Or, if you're a team that doesn't really care about winning (I wont name who im thinking of) you wont mind paying a player tons of money if it puts fans in the seats. If a team is going to offer you more money, you'll go there. However, I agree with knicksnotslick, while more exposure wont help a lebron or a wade, it could do wonders for a guy like Bosh.
My Cleveland example wasf a joke btw, I don't think Lebron will leave the Cavs.

If Bosh were to sign with a team somewhere in the US, he might be better marketed, IMO.LakerFanMan wrote:-= original quote snipped =-

He's on a winning team, but he's playing Canada, and while it shouldn't matter, it does.....

^Yes, but what about players such as Lamar Odom or Ben Gordon, for example (just throwing out names); they are pretty good players (odom at least is) and they aren't lighting the marketing world on fire, granted they play in pretty huge Media markets....
So.....
So.....

On the subject nobody want's to play for the Knicks.
Im sorry but its true, the locker room is just filled with cancer and just god awful supproting cast for any sane superstar to consider/
Yes they gain a bunch of money from sponsers for playing in a major market however that fact wont outweight the earlier mentioned one's.
On the subject of Lebron I really feel that the only team that can "steal" him is the Nets, if the Cav's get Lebron a supporting cast that doesnt resemble a D-league team and maybe a superstar or 2 to help him than there's no chance he's gonna leave however if things stay the same and the Nets move to Brooklyn-the biggest market in the world I really believe that their roster and Jay will convince him to come.

1st Texas was the first team to give ARod a huge contract
As to the main subject of the post I believe mostly what happens is most of the media is based out of NY.A lot of competition to get stories so they ask/write stories about whether a particular superstar wants to play in NY
Of course the stock answer is"of course I would like to play there"This answer is true almost 100% of the time you ask a player if he would like to play in any particular city as he does not wish to upset any potential future employer by saying something to the effect"God no I like to drink beer and hate Mormons I would never play in Utah"Forget the big contract Utah may offer some day with that answer out there or any city trashed in a similar way
