To me, no trade involving EB is enticing. What are we really getting? We're essentially downgrading our front court. Banks and Cook are nice, but not enough. Haslem is a good PF, but when it comes to him and EB, he can't carry EB's jockstrap. And a young Beasley isn't good enough to compensate for the loss of Elton either. Now if that number two pick turns out to be Rose, it could be a little different. But assuming the #2 would be Beasley, I'd say no.

I agree. As much as EB's been the heart and soul of this franchise, it would be hard to turn down a deal like that. Having #2 and 7 would be a nice way to jump start our rebuilding.mkwest wrote:As much as I want Brand to finish out his career here, I'd strongly consider it if and only if we kept our 7th. If it's Brand for filler and and pick swap then it's an easy no from me.

Some heat fans Think its stupid to trade a pick for Brand when we can get him next year. Im Not trying to start a fight but thats just what people think.
We're homers for valuing our own player? Nice. The long list of assumptions that lead to the Brand to Miami in 2009 theory, including 1) the Clippers will suck next year, 2) Miami won't suck next year and 3) that Miami for some reason is a place where Brand would want to play, are all far more homeristic than not wanting to trade your teams best player for a draft pick.
Then maybe keep the Brand conversation going with the more realistic fans on the Miami board. No offense, but I don't think you are going to convince anybody here.

I never once said "if he opts out he is going to miami". I am just saying you guys are running the rest of losing him if you dont move him. Im sure you guys know more then me about him but from everything i hear, he will be testing the free agent waters. So if that is the case why run the risk of losing him and not getting anything in return.

I'd expect Brand to play out 2008/09 and then test the waters as a UFA after the season. Given the history of the Clippers, I'd expect there to be around a 75% chance that he will leave with no compensation. With the present roster, I can't see the Clippers winning more than 35 games next year in the West. He might resign with Clippers if they offer more money than competing teams, but if the money is the same, I'd expect him to want to play on a successful franchise.
The problem with this trade for Marion is that he is also a free agent at season end and if Rose is drafted #1, the Clippers should pick Beasley with the #2 pick. With Beasley at PF and Thornton at SF the Clippers don't really need to sign another expensive forward so I'd expect him to leave after next season. This also doesn't do much to address the Clippers problem at SG/PG, since Banks is a backup PG.

What jgustav said.
We all know that Brand will possibly or probably leave after next year.
If the Clippers can trade Brand for a player or pick of comparable value in a basically straight-up trade, then they'll do it. Especially for the #2 pick, as Beasley would be on a rookie contract for a few years.
But there really is no other realistic option, they're not going to trade him for pieces. The Clippers would rather just have him play our his contract, and then leave or not leave. They would rather him stay, but if he leaves then there goes a large salary that they can dream of signing another FA like Kobe. The Clippers don't have a plan beyond that.
So if Miami doesn't want to give up basically the #2 for Brand, then of course feel free to wait a year and try to get him then.

I would definitely do it if we could keep our #7. We are a borderline playoff team in the West with a healthy Brand right now. Beasley may never be quite as good as Brand, but he will probably be an all-star player and is 10 years younger.
Kaman
Beasley
Thornton
Gordon
Livingston
A line up like that has a serious future.

If LAC gets the #2 with a guy that can play PF (Haslem or Marion) to play with Kaman, is Mayo considered at #2? A few mocks have him at #2 after his work-outs.

Re: Mia-LA(Beasley 4 Brand)
as a Heat fan I know you guys love you franchise player Brand
but there nowhere in Hell are the Heat going to trade 2pick and Marion for Brand
Not that the Heat wouldn't trade either one but not both for Brand
I love to see what the best college player last season can do in a Heat uniform personally
but a 2 pick ,Haslem,blount,Cook
for Brand (future 1pick) is not a deal a LA front office
if offer can ignore easily
Giving you a line up of
PG Augstine/Knight/Liningston
SG Maggette/Mobley/Cook
SF Thornton/Thomas
PF Beasley/Haslem/Blount
C Kaman/?

Fun facts :
- The Miami Heat surpassed the Knicks in championships
- Only the Lakers, Bulls, Celtics and Spurs have more championships
