not sure - my original thought was maybe we could grab Hinrich for Snow when the talk was that Chicago was interested in Snow as their coach and we weren't giving permission for them to talk to him. i.e. trade him, have him retire so he could coach (then Joe Smith would be the other piece of the Brand trade). But that doesn't seem likely now.

It may take a little creativity and a multi team trade to get the 3 I listed.

Redd + Villuneva is a backup to Miller + Brand. One thing seems pretty clear, though. Since the Gasol trade, we have to upgrade our team if we want to be able to beat the lakers next year after Bynum returns. I think our team as is can compete with anyone else given more playing time together.

Agreed. Also, your hypothetical dealings look reasonable for all teams involved.

One thing that I think the BUCKS would insist on, is that whoever they trade Redd to (if they trade him), that team will be required to take Simmons. I also think that now is the time to snag Charlie Villanueva. He is only 23 years old, and has shown that when given regular minutes, he produces! Also, I think that if we (or any team) were to wait a year on him, that the Bucks wouldn't trade him. By then, they will have realized that Li is a bust, and that Charlie has all-star potential.

With this in-mind, I came-up with the following trade:

Milwaukee sends -

Charlie Villanueva (1 year)
Michael Redd (3 years)
Bobby Simmons (2 years)
Charlie Bell (3 years)
+ 2011 2nd-round draft pick

Cleveland sends-[b]

Anderson Varejao (1 year PO)
Wally Szczerbiak (1 year)
Damon Jones (1 year)
Sasha Pavlovic (2 years)
+ 3 million cash
2009 & 2011 1st-round picks

Under this scenario the Cavaliers would lose 1st-rounders, but would still have 2 second-rounders in 09 and 11.

Villanueve replaces Varejao easily. Simmons cannot be worse than Sasha. Redd becomes the new SG, with Simmons as the back-up. New line-up:

PG: West/Gibson
SG: Redd/Simmons
SF: LeBron/Devin Brown (re-signed?)
PF: Villanueva, Wallace
C: Zydrunas/Smith/Draft-pick?

Eric will retire or get traded and retire. So, depending on what he does, we may do another sign&trade for a disgruntled player.

As far as free-agents go, we will be one of only a few teams that use the entire mid-level exception.

Depending on how things go, we may sign Kwame Brown as the Big off the bench (vet minimum), or we may bring Diop back for a couple years; he is still young. Diop would require the entire MLE. We do have the bi-annual available also, which is good for 1.8 million.

This is taking cost, what they bring to the team, and how well they would fit into consideration. Plus the reasoning:

1. Mike Miller (Need vs Want, low cost compared to others, 3pt + asts, create own offense)
2. Chris Kaman (LAC longest deal, they may consider getting rid of b4 Brand, +15pts,13 reb 3 blks High post)
3. Vince Carter (Carried team to playoff race after JKidd-real cancer. after trade +25pts, 6reb,5ast,2stl)
4. Emeka Okafor (Still young, no true post offense but avg +13 pts. Very defensive, some inj)
5. Baron Davis (Getting cheaper by the day, +8asts +2stls +20pts,can play off guard)
6. Kirk Hinrich (Only player who is an uprgrade on defense at the PG spot. ~38% 3pt, 6asts)
7. Josh Howard (Reminds me of Scottie so much, carried Dallas in the beginning of the season)
8. Ron Artest (Could be as cheap if not cheaper than Miller, post offense and creates)
9. Elton Brand (Only if healthy but we dont want to just take chances)
10. Jermaine O'Neal (Same as Brand)
11. Michael Redd (Doesnt seem like a Chemistry guy, doesnt play D,inj last season)
12. Zach Randolf (Willing to take a shot at him depending on what else we can get from NY)
13. Andrei Kirilenko (Big contract while Utah will have contract issues-Deron+ Boozer, see what we can get)
14. Mo Williams (Stats are comparable to Billups but his affect on the game isnt, ?defense)
15. Raymond Felton (still young, consider looking at him but we may not have much time experimenting)

Andre Miller unattainable
Ben Gordon Not a PG, we have our fairshare of combo guards
Would love to try and get Matrell Webster, Darko Milicic , JR Smith(young potentials who may be on the market or added above)

Why the hell wouldn't be Brand healthy, anyone can rupture his achilles...even Mike Miller.

I agree - he even came back for the end of the season and put up 17.6/8.0 and a PER of 20.1
